First off, please explain how world-class athletic talent alone makes one a great Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach. The majority of excellent coaches did not have world or national class athletic careers. Secondly, Huffins couldn't of been too impressive a candidate if the job was re-posted.
Actually, I saw the re-posting as more indicative of the lack of decision making capability in the administration.
I believe people on this board have mentioned that Huffins has demonstrated coaching ability in other jobs in the ACC, and is not relying on his athletic prowess as qualification. He may have gotten his first job on the basis of his athletic experience, but he didn't start with the Cal job.
It'll be interesting to see how he does, in any event. The previous discussions, to me,have muddled just what exactly the job description is for the position, anyway.
