He had a great race at world cross, seems like he has been off since then but shouldn’t be too worrying yet. I also checked his strava and he has been consistent.
This is a way better performance than Millrose. Not sure he’ll be far enough along to make the 3k team (and unsure if this time gets in).
Good close by Drew to take the 5k in 13:10. Not far off his outdoor PB. I am admittedly a Tinman (the coach, not the group) hater but the guy got Drew in 13:20 shape in crappy old Adidas spikes. With the adjustment for super shoes and what I would consider better training, I’d expect Drew to be a sub-13 guy by now. It’s early I know, but I’ll eat a little crow and say Tinman wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Shelby's interview after the US XC championships has some answers. She mentioned taking three weeks completely off after the world championships and then struggling to get back into training, especially doing workouts alone.
My sense is she was super motivated to come back strong last year after her suspension, but she experienced post-championship blues after Tokyo, probably coupled with disappointment over not getting connected with a training group. It sounded like her heart wasn't into running indoors this season, and she wanted to mix things up to try to make things fun (why is why she did that trail race).
