Hobbs Kessler did that for the 1500 meters while in high school, although in fairness that NCAA record was soft as butter -- a lot of guys have since beaten that mark (including the mile equivalent).

Not ideal pacing: 24.9/25.6/27.0/26.5. Slightly slower on laps 1/2 and then tighten up lap 3 and he’s well into the 1:43s.

yeah, Sam is great, but Cooper is setting out to be the GOAT. Sam, I figure, would end up being another Laros, very good but far from being unbeatable, while Cooper will become the next Rudisha.

Well…if Ruthe somehow beats Hocker in half an hour that might change the narrative a bit.

In fairness, Ruthe is closer to Cooper in the 800 than Cooper is to him in the mile.

More like what the various HS Federations think. He is far and away the best HS 800m runner ever. No one is close talent wise.
