I think Langon is getting a bad rap for what seems to me to be a mild case of undiagnosed Autism / ASD. I am not saying this in a mean way, or excusing his behavior, but I think it lines up with some of his behaviors.
He has difficulty empathizing with or understanding others and his competitors, he seems to emulate a certain persona that he sees online (this is a big staple of ASD), difficulty making eye contact during interviews, obsessions around one specific hobby / activity. Oftentimes people with ASD don’t intend to come off as rude, it is more that they do not realize they are doing it
I don’t think he’s on the spectrum. I see elements of psychopathy and sociopathic behavior. I think he is resentful and has developed a narcissistic identity of himself with an inability to relate to the people around him. He is purposefully coming across as rude, it’s intentional.
Armchair diagnosis is just that. The poster who noted the difference between in front of the camera and just “offline” in-person seems to say a lot. Definitely has a persona and a bit of a script he sticks to, even as far as vocabulary, but in between that he gave Kitchen props and any dig at Martin was mild and mostly stating facts (heard he was sick, said it was for Vin to speak to why he wasn’t there). He also talked about how nice it was to just spend time with his teammates.
I’ve never met the guy, but he seems to have an on-camera schtick. He made be a turd off-camera too, yet I would be curious what people who see him on the daily think and feel.
I rewatched the arm and the swerve maybe a dozen times and I don’t think it made a difference. Seemed more like instinct and while not the cleanest, did Sands have anything to say?
Just make a rule that unless you're passing a lapped runner if you're in lane 1 and leading on the homestretch that you have to stay in lane 1 through the finish.
Shortest distance is a straight line. To do anything else is to impede.
This is actually too strict. Common to unconsciously drift to lane 2, especially when fatigued and on a tight indoor track. Judges should use their discretion. In this case they failed, this is an obvious DQ.
Actually perfectly reasonable if you ask me. Nobody just “drifts into lane 2” on the final straightaway; its a micro aggression to cut your competitor off if hes coming for you from behind. Unless you have mental problems, its really clear that if youre in lane 1 at the final straightaway, staying in that lane is the fastest way to the finish.
Unless youre literally seeing stars and literally cannot control your body to stay in your lane, which is ridiculous to even say, it should banned. Nobody is blacking out so hard at the finish that they swivel over another lane. Maybe you can squeeze the outside of lane 1, but going into lane 2 is just saying to your competitor behind “i know youre coming for me, and im gonna make it as hard as possible to”.
I do appreciate dudes like Hocker that just capitalize on these idiots, and take the inside. But still, its unfair, and it carries major risks. Can seriously get hurt if the one in front cuts inside again, which definitely can and does happen.
People just allow this behavior because everybody does and its considered “normal”. Its tolerated. It shouldn't be honestly. Marco definitely exacerbated it though, easily a dq
But also same token, if the dude is in the lead around the final bend, he has major cajones compared to the weasel behind trying to sneak up on him. He should have some type of recourse.
So actually im caught up on what the rule should be.
just watched him literally push Colton Sands. Are we kidding? that was entirely on purpose and you can't even say he did it out of tiredness. he smiled after doing it. just shows how ridiculous how the sport has become.
I think its hilarious u kids talking about Langon. u wouldnt say this stuff to him at nationals, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol

The villain thing is kind of interesting to me because his personality is so different from any other distance runner I can really think of... like way way way out there compared to any other current runner who is just cocky (Ingebrigtsen, Kerr) but mixed with slight anti-socialness of Josh Hoey) and then dialed up a ton. Of course all of those pros have far more accolades than he's likely to ever achieve.
I don't know if the massive chip on his shoulder is a self-motivational thing because literally everything is a personal affront to him (never mind he's the one committing the DQ-able offenses). I just don't think that kind of attitude is sustainable long-term in such a mentally taxing (and physically demanding) sport. Nobody would bat an eye if this was basketball or football, though. But, again, the kind of personalities that succeed in professional distance running generally aren't similar to the star wide receivers, for example.

It’s unfortunate that he had to pull the classless move at the end because he ran an impressive race by losing the lead then regaining it and being pushed to the end. Definitely should by DQ’ed.

Haha, just funny. Langon full body checks Sands at the line and Sands doesn’t even really change trajectory at the point of contact. He jogs off to the right after crossing the finish line.
on another note, Langon is out of touch. talks about in one of his interviews how he used to cry because he had to go to work.
Langdon should have been DQ's for interference which would have negated his qualifying time. And given the NCAA Director already told Langdon's coach that his time from earlier in the season wouldn't count, he would have to run again for a qualifying purpose. The kid needs to understand that people within the sport talk, and there will be plenty of eyes on him at NCAA. That means if he does anything incorrectly he might face DQ. Not smart on his part.
he beat a true freshman by 2 seconds and shoved another guy at the line and he acts like he knocked out Mike Tyson. if he doesn't win the NCAA 3K title next month he's gonna need some serious therapy.
He’s got that psycho look in his eyes. For all the jokes over the years…..Langon really is the first elite level runner to actually RUN ON PURE HATE. He seems miserable, paranoid, and selfish. Part of the interview is about how the NCAA is out to get him. There’s an unspoken rule in our sport that you don’t trash your fellow competitors. He does that frequently. He needs a therapist like a diabetic needs insulin. I’m middle aged, and I don’t ever recall seeing a distance guy like Langon in my lifetime. He is an embarrassment to our sport.
Liking this for the PURE HATE reference. TBH it’s gotten him pretty far. Now he’s got to figure out how to transform it into something more appreciative and I think his running will actually improve. He’s young hopefully he’ll figure it out. Kessler’s an intense, emotional guy, but after last year’s disappointment he turned again, looked within, and found something he didn’t think he had. Wishing Marco the best. Running is a long journey of self-discovery.
I am sick of Marco's dramatic act of falling at the finish line every time and just laying there in the way of other finishers. It doesn't make him look cool, it makes him look like a loser.
