We have the same conversation every year. The girls used to warrant their own region, now not so much (still a very solid state). The boys never did, but were just a byproduct. There are plenty of good solutions, but the fat cats at Nike will never change anything.
You are wrong about the NY boys, when you say “never did”. NY boys finished 1-3 in 2005, and had 3 other teams (Liverpool, Shenendehowa, and Queensbury) who were likely top-10 at NTN but didn’t get consideration. If that’s not worthy of a region, then almost nobody’s worthy.
California needs to have their state meet 2 weeks earlier. There is no reason that they need to have their meet on the last weekend of November when all the other states have been done for 2-5 weeks. Don't give me the excuse about how long it takes to go through all your rounds of qualifying. You just move everything back 2 weeks and then you can adjust any regular season meets that get displaced. Very simple.
It's funny when people think that CA State meet would ever move for NXN. Good luck with that.
The easy solution to that is for Nike to put CA into one of the other regions and then those teams can just make whatever decision they want to make. CA doesn't have to change, but everyone else can just go on without them unless they want to make a change.

Yeah, that idea is absolutely DOA.
Nike is the supplemental meet, it is the one that needs to schedule around the rest of the nation's regular meets (re: State meet series). Nike should never plan to have a regional (or national) race that conflicts with any state meet.
First issue that needs to be solved, other than Alaska, every state should have their state meet on the same weekend.
Last weekend of October/first weekend of November would be fine. Then Nike and Brooks can alternate their regional and national weekends.
California doesn't need to go to the last week of November.
Season is way too long. It's expected that these kids train all summer and then hold onto until December. It makes cross country a six month sport.
Let me play Devil's advocate here for a second. I agree that CA state meet needs to move up some but other than non sanctioned "National" meets what other reason is there?
CA HS doesn't have an indoor season to prep for, so they get XC State in late November and then their next meets are outdoor in late Feb.

Our state has our state meet on the first weekend of November. We don't have indoor and our first outdoor meets are not until the last week of March.

Your State doesn't have indoor? Or your team doesn't do indoor?

Our state does not have indoor. So our state ends xc the first week of november. Then outdoor starts the first week of march with meets beginning a few weeks later.

That's a long haul. So your offseason in the Winter must be longer than your offseason in the Summer? Both are the same length for us.

Yes it is. There are 16 weeks between the state XC meet and the first practice for track. There are 10-11 weeks between the state track meet and the first practice in XC. Both seasons are the exact same length. XC and track are both 13 weeks from 1st practice to state meet.
