He is retired, right? Not competing in track anymore, right? So why does anyone give a damn about what he shoves down his pie hole or what he looks like?
Growth hormone (GH) treatment in young adults with childhood-onset GH deficiency has beneficial effects on bone mass. The present study shows that cortical bone dimensions also benefit from GH treatment, with endosteal expans...
This is for young adults who already have GH deficiency. I am not sure how it would affect a fully developed adult without that problem but likely if he took enough it would increase bone size but looking at him I doubt he was taking enough.

Because Ryan Hall is running a coaching business and coaching hobby joggers, what's to stop him from giving PEDs to the athletes he mentors when he is taking tons himself? We all know that it is very easy to pass a USADA test unless you are very stupid with the dosage and timing. And what's to stop Ryan Hall giving Sara Hall some of his stash for micro-dosing? They live in the same house and share the same fridge.
Ryan spent the majority of his life running OUTSIDE. Maybe he got sick of being inside lifting all day. In my case I took up power lifting 6-7 years ago. I went from 175ish to 210 in about 18 months. I'd never been that muscular. It was a novelty though and I missed being outside. Plus, I couldn't run much and my wife hated how I looked. So I still lift but on a much reduced schedule and hey! I can run again which is actually fun for me. Now I weigh around the low 190's and I look better and feel better.
I was shocked to see Ryan Hall looking like a skinny marathoner again when the last time I saw photos of him, he was super muscular from his bodybuilding.
Here is Ryan Hall from April 20, 2024 with pecs and arms bigger than a bear, and with all that muscle would have had trouble running:
And now here is Ryan Hall recently on Oct 1, 2025 looking like a skinny marathoner again and actually running instead of lifting dumbbells and weights for his videos. His Instagram post says he now weighs 167 pounds and talking about "loving the lightness (just 35 grams)" of his Suunto watch. No muscle obsessed bodybuilder would praise how light a running watch is:
Ryan was a great runner, his wife was a great runner, he retired, he took steroids and became huge, he stopped taking steroids and is not huge, and now he slogs through some runs on a trail waving his arms, and is 165 LBS. Who F**king cares!

What other pro runner that we know of that openly takes bodybuilding steroids?

I’m in my 40s and live in an affluent neighborhood. Guys hand each other TRT for free cause they look tired. Getting PEDs is easier than getting an oil change on my Porsche.
Hall wasn’t on a little TRT when he got huge, he was on a lot. More than likely a lot more then just TRT.
Hall is one of the biggest “me” guys I’ve ever seen. Remember when he fired his coach so Jesus could coach him?
The guy is looking for his next grift. Then say he did it for Jesus
First, congratulations, sir, on living in an affluent area and owning a Porsche — we are all humbled by your success!
I think I agree with what you are saying!
I’ve seen a proliferation of “TRT” among middle-class, middle-aged men. However, these people are not actually on TRT!
TRT is a treatment for hypogonadism — a condition where the body doesn’t produce enough testosterone.
The goal is to restore testosterone to normal levels. 99.99% of people claiming to be on TRT are in reality on a low-dose steroid cycle. They are using it to raise their TES levels to that of a 20-year-old because they want to look and feel younger. It has nothing to do with therapy! Pretty quickly, these guys start staking their test injections with HGH!
I don’t see a problem with this, as long as people are honest. It becomes insidious when people hide their enhanced look to sell training plans or supplements — for me, this is outright fraud! Yes, I am talking to you, Nick Bare, Truett Hanes, and Ken Roidout.
As a former competitor of Ryan's, I am glad to see he has stopped the 'roid bro thing.
My only critique is against the need to "activate" or "turn on" or "clean up" certain muscles or connective tissues of the body before starting a run.
"Scrapping?" He must mean scraping? I find it hard to believe the muscles of the legs need to be scraped with a piece of metal before running. I would like to see a histological sample of his leg muscles before and after he "cleans" the fascia.
Bands--now these used as strengthening exercises to improve the glutes and hips I believe in hugely. Do they need to be done immediately before a a run to "activate" those muscles? Probably not. The benefit would be the same performed at any time of the day. If doing these exercises before a run results in an athlete doing them more times per week than they otherwise would, then all good.
Jumping rope to "turn things on??" I think the first 40 seconds of running will work just fine.
In any case, kudos to Ryan for continuing to find joy in running in whatever form he chooses.
He and his wife can argue all day that he is clean and was not using steroids 100% lie. Look they want to come off as pure and Christian but Hall was taking enough steroids to fuel a race horse. You don't go from low testosterone to that. I spent 8 years post running lifting weights, core, solid diet and my bench went from 185 to 300. I also never had testosterone issues and I wasn't even half of what hall became body wife. Running wise I was a 2:23 marathoner.
I put the breaks on all of the weights after back and shoulder issues that required surgery. Also had a heart condition.
What Ryan was doing to get like that is not any different then the routine/regimen that all.of the body builders do that drop dead.
How do you lose muscle so quickly? As a skinny guy, I thought muscle mass is permanent.
It's well known that muscle gained through the use of performance-enhancing substances is lost rapidly when you stop taking them. This is the biggest clue he was on the gear: you don't simply lose 30 lbs of muscle this quickly if it were gained naturally.
