Pretty much has to be someone with high expectation and didn't deliver as expected right?
Warholm, after breaking the 300m WB earlier and coming into the event with a 46 low already. Really thought we might see another 45. Not liikely now, as he's getting older. Must be way tougher for him than for anyone else, so my disappointment is way less that my empathy. Also the bloody rising sun, who just couldn't keep it cool, only to go cold the week after. Seriously.
The weather. Seb Coe has even mentioned that scheduling of world class track and field events needs to take into account climate change. Whether you believe in climate change or not the problem will always be holding a September event in Tokyo. The heat and humidity for distance running made it unfeasible to see great times posted by the world's best. Instead, the distance events and marathon were even slower than the usual championship style races with nearly the entire field still in the race heading into the last lap. Yes, those last laps were exciting, but is that what Seb Coe wants for the next World Championship in Bejing.
As a man I really dont like or care about women's running, but I would think for most logical people the greatest disappointment was definately the media shoving the camera in Sidney mcglocklins face for long periods of time just to take away all focus from Femke Bols amazing victory in the hurdles. The whole decision for mcglocklin to run the open 400 was nothing but a dodge, because she knew what type of hurdle shape femke was in.
No need to comment on hocker. It was obviously a set-up by the powers-that-be.
None of the top marathoners in the world were in the road race.
Coach dahl
Barret, you make very little sense. Sydney has never lost to Femke and has never really ducked her as competition. To add to that, Femke's 400m hurdles victory is unimpressive because Sydney chose the open 400 and Sydney's 47 high American record and second fastest women's 400 ever was way more impressive than Femke's hurdles victory.
How was Hocker's DQ a set-up?
The top marathoners are never in the World Championship marathon. This is literally the case in every World Championships.
We all know that you are not really a coach and that no sensible person would ever allow themselves to be coached by you.

The IAAF and the countries hosting the events should just invest in climate-controlled technology to make competing in the events more bearable for the athletes. I feel that making them compete in hot harsh conditions is an enormous health risk.
Donovan Brazier not making it to the final of the 800M.
I disagree. His comeback season was a sensation. USAs victory and 1:42. It was a miracle even if he never runs another step. To set the bar for Brazier so high, that him not making the final is your pick for biggest disappointment…is unfair.
I agree with your disagreement. Donovan making it to the semis is something for him and for his fans to be proud of. He wasn't beating the top 3 anyway as he has yet to break 1:42 and them cats have broken 1:42 multiple times. A massively impressive season after four years away dealing with injuries.
Cole Hocker’s DQ. Grant Fisher not doing well. No men in 800m finals (particularly disappointing about Brazier not making it - maybe expectations for him were too high and I don’t fault him, but it still doesn’t stop the disappointment imo)
The men's 1500 as a whole. What could have been another epic race after Paris ended with Jakob bounced in the first round due to injury, Hocker DQed in the semi, and Kerr and Laros not in contention in the final. No disrepect to Nader or the other medallists - they survived and advanced, taking advantage when it mattered most. Their medals are 100% deserved. But as a fan, it was a letdown to see all the favorites fall apart.
Agree, this was my first thought in response to the question. Even 3:27 guys Phanuel Koech and Frenchman Habz didn’t make final…. and no Nuguse
If all the main players were healthy and in the final, wow! What a race that would have been!! … and what if they were all there and Laros still won? What we be calling that? One of the greatest upsets in 1500m history?
Watching the discus and high jumpers have to deal with the rain. Train all year and then you have to deal with that. Unbelievable that Stahl threw a 70 in final round.

It was a race.
You were looking for time trial.
As for Hocker, he did it to himself. He is is own kryptonite.
But he's learning. He just has to not lose focus mid race. Strategically, he is not at his peak. But he's won plenty.

He was looking for extra speed. It wasn't enough.
He has been hurt. Once that happens, he could be over his peak. Look at Wayde van Niekerk. At their level a 1% is a chasm
How about Gault or anyone from LetsRun running in the media 800? You guys had your chance to put Citius or these pseudo-media photographers trying to be social media influencers in their place.
Man, it's dang tough to make it to any championship that someone has to qualify to be in. At every level there will be a lot of athletes disappointed, but spectators never should be. People lay it on the line. As they say there is no fat on the meat in championships. Competitions are contested in the arena, roads, tracks and trails, not on paper. The struggle and triumph is what makes the sport great.
The only disappointment is people using PEDS, etc. That ruins the sport.
For me the biggest disappointment was related to the time the events were held, as I saw so little of it live, and I usually knew the outcome when I viewed some races later. And then because I probably only watched like 10 races, and not usually live, I felt like the championships were almost over before they started, so that was disappointing. I don’t usually feel disappointed in the results because I don’t have substantial expectations and of course the results are out of my control.

The earth is round.
If you were smarter, and of course you are not, you might know that some of us sort of have lives, which might be an unfamiliar concept to you, and that we might not have known, even if knowing Tokyo time, the extent to which the time the events would be held, due to not looking at the timetable ahead of time, would be rather inconvenient for us. This of course is not important in the scheme of things.
My greatest disappointment was Niels Laros misjudging the break and getting stuck in the lead for the first 600 meters. I knew it was over for him at that point. He wasn't going to be at his best given that type of tension for 80 seconds, and he had so little margin for error to begin with.
Laros' priority this season was improving tactics. He didn't understand that a non-paced, non-Jakob final wasn't guaranteed to have a quick pace. The break he used in the Tokyo final would have been fine in absolutely any other race. But the rest of the field was simply much sharper in gauging the situational realities.
Otherwise I agree with someone else that Rai Benjamin hitting the 10th hurdle was a massive disappointment in that he should have broken the world record and rewritten the global storyline regarding that event. There is less than 18 months age difference between Warholm and Benjamin. But in reality one is still smack in his absolute prime while the other is long beyond.
Warholm simply cannot deal with Benjamin head to head anymore. I emphasized that numerous times leading to Tokyo. Warholm gets tense and totally butchers the final two hurdles. This has been a demonstrated trend long before Tokyo and is only getting more pronounced. I have been a sports bettor since 1984. Rai Benjamin as underdog in Tokyo was one of the greatest value propositions I have ever seen. The 46.28 was completely irrelevant, a toss. I emphasized that on Reddit. There was greater chance Benjamin would break the world record than he would lose to Karsten Warholm.
But smacking that barrier not only deprived Benjamin of the world record but caused me to sweat out the wagering outcome for 15 agonizing minutes. I saw it immediately, long before NBC said anything. I knew the rule. Rai Benjamin was just extremely fortunate that he nudged the inside barrier straight sideways. That's the only reason he got away with it. It didn't impact the hurdler in lane 6 because the hurdle remained on the line. If that barrier had bumped inward or outward even a couple of inches, forcing the lane 6 hurdler to have a barrier not square to the line, Benjamin would have been disqualified and Dos Santos the victor.
