We’ve changed the thread title many times. At one point, it was called: Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships Day 8 Live Discussion Thread - US men bomb out of 4 x 400, Jamaica men bomb out of 4 x 100
While I sit her waiting for the finals to begin, I’m wondering about the presentation of the meet.
What happened to the really cool laser show introductions into the dark? If that cost a million, I’d say it was worth it. I think it was Doha where that started?
lso I thought they were also trying out lasers for like shot put that show fans in the stadium the gold/silver/bronze positions like they do on tv. I think both of those are needed for the in-stadium experience.
The US was impeded. But it's hard to feel sympathy for a squad that fielded a second-rate B team. The uUS women have the depth to play like that, but the men do not.
You're allowed adjust in NCAA and High school meets but not in WA events.
There were DQs for this at world relays last year.
Also the official got ireland and Nigerian green uniforms confused and Adeleke coming in 2nd or 3rs.had to crash across 4 lanes to give the baton in the 7th position
As a non-American (and an official with international experience) when I read Stormtrack's post I was like, "What are you smoking? No one can reset the lineup after the 200 mark!" Now that you've explained why Stormtrack would think this, I'm equally bemused as to why the NCAA doesn't use WA rules?! Anyone know why?
No idea beyond intransigence
They should probably follow WA rules on drug testing too.

They just announced that Australia and Brazil have been DQd from semi #2 of the 4 x 400 but that has no impact on the US. US can’t get in on time as they were 6th in heat #2 and there are only two time qualifiers plus all 6 of the teams in heat #2 that have a finishing time broke 3:00.
I would coach these relays for free. Even watching the 4x1, these guys have no idea how to hand the baton off and the steps are completely wrong.
The incompetence is staggering. It’s every year. They either don’t practice or don’t know how to practice. A reasonably decent high school coach would have these guys running half a second faster with safe passes.
US 4x1 changeovers stunk as well but they're through.
Crazy! The US will probably swap in Kenny for the 2nd leg, Courtney for the 3rd, and Noah for Anchor. Not ideal, but the saving grace is that Coleman, Kenny, and Courtney are all apart of the same training group. They will just need to work on the final exchange with Noah.

For those of you not watching, they were running a pretty stacked team of Akeem Blake, Oblique Seville, Ryan Forde and Kushan’s Thompson. Forde never got the stick to Thompson. Not sure why as it’s not like Thompson left too early.
But I think there other handoffs might not have been good as well as it looked like they had a lot of work to do even if they had made the exchange. Anyone have access to a replay?
