Hell, it doesn't even have to be 4 men. It could be 3 men and 1 sixteen-year-old kid. The sub 1:40 barrier is going to get QUADRUPLE-SMASHED, and you can mark my words.
Can we get a time frame?
I'm updating the will and leaving insturctions for the inheritors of the site. I'm not sure I'm going to be here in the year 3065.
From 8/6/2025 through the 800-meter final of the 2028 Olympic games.
During that time frame you people will see 4 men go under 1:40 in the same race.
Now that I have given you a specific timeframe, YOU (rojo) must OFFICIALLY mark my words. Thank you.
Only a true MORON would think this. Literally NOBODY will go sub 1:40.
Are you new to running or in middle school? You think a .5 or 1 second in the 800m is "oh its so close" moron.
LMAOOOOO you're so dumb. Imagine saying 3 men will run sub 3:24 in the mile 1500m in Tokyo.
Where do these idiot runners come from? The race is going to be 1:41.85 at best, sit and kick. 2 guys will run 1:41...then rest 1:42-1:44. Thats it. Its not fffing rocket science.

On one hand 4 men under 1:40 in the same race sounds impossible. On the other hand, 7 days ago we would have said it would be impossible for Cooper Lutkenhaus to be within 2.3 seconds of 4th place in a world class 800 field. The idea that no man on earth can run 2.3 seconds faster than Cooper Lutkenhaus just did strikes me as almost as improbable as the idea that 4 men could do it in one race. I can now accept the possibility that somebody will break 1:40 in the next few years. I don't really expect to see 4 under 1:40 in one race, but crazy sh!t happens in places like Monaco once in a while.

The hs kid had plenty left in the tank, look for him to go 139 if he wants

The only reason I’m entertaining this is because a 16 yo just ran 1:42 and can probably dip into the 1:41s in a DL race. If a 16 yo can run 1:41, surely a couple older guys in their prime could run faster, right?
Brazier is SO talented, and finally healthy, at altitude, and with a great coach. Wanyonyi is SO talented, already a 1:41 low guy, and in his prime. Hoey is SO talented and HAS to run incredibly in the DL final if he wants to make it to Worlds. Everyone will be peaking, there will be a pacer, and who knows how many guys are ready to run 1:41 after the Olympics last year? It might take a WR to win, and if it does (and there are a couple guys really close together), maybe 4 guys sub-1:40 won’t be as surprising.
Honestly in a world where the DL final is always held right before WCs, and they unlock a spot, we might see way more incredibly fast times. Normally the issue is that people are past their peak for the DL final, so if they’re in absolute peak shape and some guys are vying for spots, we could get some crazy results. Like will Nuguse or Hoey try to run a WR in the DL final to ensure no one can stick with them? Would a WR even ensure no one could out kick them? Idk but I think it’s gonna be a way better format now that it’s always right before WCs, and WCs are always at the end of the season.
The tricky part with something like that is it’ll end up being a situation where all four guys are trying for the same spot and bumping into each other, checking strides, etc. It’s gotta be something where they can all just fall in line, which means they’d have to be confident in their ability to come from behind and/or either predetermine the order (something like a legal exhibition race) or all make the perfect snap judgments on the fly. And then not have any real chaos or swinging too wide the last lap either. Or be in shape to run 1:39-low to account for a little less than a perfect ride.
Noone will ever go sub 1:40. You're talking like someone starting sub 49 and holding on with a sub 51. Noone ever tries to go out in sub 49.
Rudisha went out in 49.3 and came back in 51.6. Nobody who goes out in sub 49 is gonna come back in sub 51. Impossible.
That Cooper Lutkenhausen guy went out in 50 point and came back in 51 something, and looked like a bat out of hell and exploded the boards. He is going to come back in sub 51 after starting more than a second faster? Try 53 maybe, just like everyone who went out in 49 in that race.
There is very little room for improvement at the top end of 800m performance. There's no outliers, hasn't been one for decades by now.

having "plenty" left in the tank, does not mean he can or will or could've ran faster.
if anything it shows he has bad race tactics when it matters and will continue to run mediocre races considering his talent since he "had more in the tank"
when he continues to run slower the rest of his career...i cant wait for all the "BUT HE HAD MORE IN THE TANK"
So did Lagat running 3:26........but he never ran 3:23 and was the only guy in history with the skills to do so.

The kid will never run 1:42 again---it starts going down from here.
MARK MY WORDS. HE WILL BE THE GREATEST DISSAPOINTMENT OF ALL TIME
