This track looks weird. It’s like there’s another track inside the rail
iirc due to field sizes getting larger at penn relays they chose to expand the track inwards due to space so the old lane 1 became lane 4. Multi lap events use lane 4 the entire way.

You can see how close the stands are to the outside lanes in some spots, so expanding inward was really the only option. Lanes 1-3 have 2 turn stagger start lines that are ahead of the finish line. It is indeed unusual.
Also 10:47 race time and 13:06 he steps inside the rail on the curve in basically the exact same spot both times. At 8:05 race time he also steps inside on a straight. You can't really argue 4 violations in one race.
47 … no wonder why there was so much lap traffic at the end
great use of the traffic by Garmer though. she was boxed in in third place going into the last lap then made her move to the inside of a lapped runner while the two in front of her went to the outside and she never looked back. Sirois and Cheeseman werent fast enough to catch her and Dudek had been screened by those two just enough to keep her from chasing her down before the tape. brilliant tactics.

Dudek has been fairly under the radar for someone whose older sister won Foot Locker. I think this coming xc season she will become a lot better known. I think that Dudek will finish top 5 at either NXN or Foot Locker.

I think her running that 10:03 at the Blue Jay Invite and beating Notre Dame bound senior Helen Sachs in the process should have been a wake up call to those that hadnt noticed her yet. she ran a 5:25 1600 as a 10 year old so weve known shes a prodigy and obviously her last name should have been a big red flag. if she had had another 20 meters in this race she would have chased Garmer down and would be everybody's "freshman sensation" right now. shes going to make a lot of noise in the next three years no doubt. but lets give Garmer her flowers for this great run.

While it's definitely impressive. There's so many guys in this race that are 10-15+ seconds off times they ran literally 30 days ago.
I think a lot of guys are just fatigued at the end of the season.
I know they want to wait until all the states have had their state meets so that everyone can participate but man is this late some years. Both meets were a full week earlier last year. Some of these kids had their state meets over a month ago and have just been trying to extend the season as long as they can.

Some people choose to call it a season after the state meet, even though they have the potential to do well at nationals. Like 2023 grad Carson Noecker of NE (sub-14 3 mile in a non-championship race at Woodbridge) when he was in high school
