What I meant is that, strictly @ 5000/10000, Chep is a generational talent and Kejelcha is extremely good.
i think you are looking at "talent" differently to how most people would. cheptegei is the champion 5/10k man of his generation, that's for sure. but that doesn't mean he's necessarily his generation's top talent. i mean, was mo farah more physically gifted than, say, gebremeskel? i don't think that's clear at all; he was a better racer, and better prepared, and had more luck.
for me, kenenisa bekele's peak is the only time in the last 50 years where the top 5/10k man has been on an another level entirely to the rest of the world (but even that is an unscientific assertion based on vibes and aesthetics really). aouita, geb, farah, ingebrigtsen; everyone has had plausible rivals and/or chinks in their armour.
anyway, if i had to bet on anyone other than ingebrigtsen to be the 5000 wr holder at the end of the decade it would be kejelcha. but i might be completely wrong, and that's the fun of following this circus.
Bekele lost many times over 5000m and 3000m in his career. He wasn’t invincible.
But if people think he would have otherwise run 7:15, all that was worth 2.5 seconds or about .3 seconds per lap.
When Craig Virgin ran his 8:41 national record, the conditions were far worse so outside of a strong wind, I believe weather conditions don’t have much affect on the 3000m/2-mile distances.
Have you ever ran the 3000? Your comment suggests not.

Any race with a significant aerobic component in the middle will be impacted by heat. That is extremely obvious.

Then how did Virgin run so fast in terrible conditions? At the Sac-Joaquin section meet I’ve seen countless guys run fast PRs in the 2-mile at night when the temperature was still in the mid-80s at after a day with 100+ degree as a high. With minimal humidity there’s no effect from heat in the 80s.
With your considerable experience in running 3000m, you could sense you were running 2.5 seconds slower because of the weather conditions?
So you don´t think Jakob can improve 2 seconds in the 3000m for the rest of his career?!
Are you a member of the "Jakob has peaked" club"?
Well he’s not gonna run his fastest 3k at the end of his career.
It seems like with you, Jakob could run, say, 7:15.7 in September ‘26, and you’d assume 7:13 was a foregone conclusion and anyone who thought otherwise was an ignorant hater.

I know one thing: he cannot improve indefinitely.
His fans seem to think he will still be breaking records at 45. Another Achilles injury says he's mortal.

I personally have run many 3200's where yes, heat, wind, and humidity make a huge difference. All of my personal PR's was when it was in the mid-60's and overcast. Heat and wind affect race times. How can it not?

Obviously not, but it's hard to imagine a guy in 7:17 shape can't run faster than 12:35. Ok maybe not 12:30 but 3k correlates fairly well to 5k. I can't imagine splitting 7:30 at the 3k would be terribly difficult, that's a 13 second "slow down." Yes I agree, running another 4.5 laps at the same pace of course wouldn't be easy but if anyone could do it, I'm betting on the 7:17 guy.

Jacob is peak now, by age which is extremely predictive.
He may run his best times in 5k upward sure in the coming years, but that will be because of specific focus on time pacing and prep.
I'd like to see Jacob train like Coe for a couple of seasons and see what happens, rather the inevitable 5k route, and the 10k, is unprecedented for a 1500 runner to dominate. as in GOAT discussion.
If Jacob can go 48 mid 400, then I think 324 is a foregone conclusion.
That would take anabolic work, and lower the catabolic work.
Which is called middle distance, the science to optimize these distinctly different worlds
Are you saying that Armstronglivs is an obsessive fanboy? Makes sense.
It isn't possible for me or anyone to keep Ingebrigtsen in the discussion without the agitated responses of fanboys like you.
You are stupid. I am not a fanboy. You are. Never liked Jakob. Too arrogant. Even if I recognize his incredible talent. You? You think about him every day of your life. You get very agitated when you read his name. Bless you.
