The California high school track and field state prelims will be held in Clovis, CA on Friday, May 30 where there will be temperature high of 104°F. The next day when finals is supposed to be held, Clovis, CA will have a temperature high of 101°F. Given that these athletes are expected to do a lot of physical activity on these days, it is my recommendation that the state meet either be canceled or postponed to a time when temperatures don’t have a significant chance in increasing heat stroke among athletes.
The air quality in Fresno may be a bigger problem than the heat.
The heat is bad but I don’t think anywhere else roughly halfway between LA and SF has the infrastructure to host such a big meet. All things considered Clovis does a really good job keeping it running smoothly.
Run the 1600 and 3200 late at night. Sprints shouldn’t be affected quite as much and everybody’s affected the same anyway. It’ll be fine.

The air is pretty good now and with no major fires, it’s unlikely to change significantly in 48 hours.
*PSA-Checking the AQI is as easy as checking the weather.

The question is will CIF actually follow their own wet bulb rules? Based on the reading, it will be Major Health issue, especially for the field events and earlier running events. Will they put athletes' health first? Will they move the meet for safety?
I don't think you understand that they have rules in place. It isn't about "how bad you want it", more like how are they going to adjust things to comply with the CIF rules on heat.
The Friday schedule was just "updated" this afternoon, but it still says that the running events on Friday will be starting on time at 5pm. If they are going to change the schedule, they sure are waiting until the last minute to do that.

Coachy, you're right, but people here just want to complain. They don't get the wet bulb rule.
Thanks. I should know better then try to tell them what's right. Just let them complain and move on.

I put "updated" in quotes because even though CIF claims it's an updated schedule as of yesterday afternoon, it seems to be pretty much the same schedule as it was before the "update."
Calling it a rule is the problem. They chose not to follow it in CIF Prelims at 2 of the SS locations that were well over 100 and did follow it in one location. One of our teams kids passed out, and I watched another kid have a seizure on the track. Everyone is all jokey about it on here, but there are serious consequences to this.
INCLEMENT WEATHER/GAMES COMMITTEE POLICY In the event that inclement weather, or any other unforeseen condition that might force delay or postponement of a portion of the CIF State Track and Field Championships, a meeting shall be called immediately. This meeting will consist of the CIF State Track and Field Advisory Committee, plus designees of sections not having membership on the Advisory Committee (Games Committee). The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss current and anticipated conditions at the site and make a recommendation to the CIF State Executive Director, or his/her designee, as to whether the competition could safely proceed as scheduled, be delayed until a later time that day, or be postponed until the following day. A decision to reschedule to the next day would not be made until all other options available had been exhausted.
I wonder if they have bothered to meet or they just waiting until the last possible second?

It is extremely disappointing to see their lack of urgency and meetings.

This is ridiculous! It is going to be 100°F when the distance events start. Good luck to all the milers out there in Fresno who are going to take the worst of the heat!

Moving meet to Death Valley next year targeting heat and sub sea level records.
New melt resistant track going in now among a giant field of solar panels.

Currently 101 and that’s what it will be during the 1600s. I guess their rules don’t matter when it really counts.
