She appeared to be lapping her watch every lap, someone should pass along to her that that is just unnecessary. :)
Why does she need to skip the 10? She can win both.
She would need a 31:00 or close to that to win the 10k. Then 2 days later to try to win and beat 4 (don't forget Hilda ran 14:52) other sub15:00 5k runners is too much to ask. Her best chance is in the 10k and hope for a podium finish in the 5k.
are you assuming that Kosgei runs the 10k/5k and not the steeple? There's no way she should have to run 31:00 and also have 4 other sub 5 runners in the 5k unless Kosgei does 10k/5k and skips the steeple.

My mistake, not realizing it I had kosgei running the 10k/5k/SC and the most likely scenario is the SC/5k. If so, you are right Hartman won't need a 31:00. Probably 31:30.
Aside from Hartman, congrats to Kate putman on her 15:45! Her 3k PR was 9:31 (3.10.3/k) and just did 3.09/k for 5k. She might just be a top5 runner for the team in XC (starts in just 4 months :) )

Hartman has always had a huge engine. What she’s doing isn’t a surprise to people that have known her since high school.

The OP’s point stands. It took Valby two years to cut 29 seconds off her 5000m time in college, whereas, Hartman took 30 seconds off her 5000m in only one year.
Another two second pr for Bandukwala, who is semi-famous for a video of him going from last to first in the last lap of an Illinois state 1600m race with a 54. He's now dropped almost 4 seconds in the 800m from high school and this is his first year competing in track for Duke.

Likely 10000 runners include Cherotich and Noe and Cherobet all of whom one would think could go 31:30 (or maybe faster), plus maybe Kosgei. Going to be interesting to see who declares for what among LHL, Kosgei and Hartman. 4 runners going really fast and only 3 titles to be had.

I’m not sure who Astro is and don’t even believe that he’s an NC State fan. His attempts to cast aspersions on Valby are old and tired. Many wish that he would just go away.
Valby is a great talent. So is Hartman. Anyone who has been paying attention to how Hartman has been running could see that she has been “knocking on the door” to putting up some great performances.

as was I. She was (to me) clearly closer to her max effort last night than she was at the Raleigh Relays 10,000.
