PS. We didn't put this in the article, but for the record, when Kyle called Jonathan back, he started the interview by squashing the doping rumors.
"That could not be further from the truth relative to doping. That’s not true at all, so not quite sure where that came from."
Then he said this later:
"You have my word, nothing even remotely close [to doping]."
No doubt a big consideration in her contract was her almost 200k followers and social media presence. I wonder how her sponsor feels about it? I would be interested to see what the contract says.
Like it or not, training hard and running fast with no social media presence isn't how this game works anymore...
Also- an athlete of her caliber should just have a social media manager run it. Plenty of athletes/groups/agents provide that service to athletes of way less popularity.
It's a win-win- sponsor is happy with the carefully curated social media presence and she doesn't have to directly deal with any of the filth. This is a professional sport.....
A digital content manager job salary runs $90K/yr. Not sure with her contract she has enough budget for a digital content manager.
Not sure what is going on in this situation but deleting social media would be considered a breach of contract. Honestly I think she got a taste of what it’s like to train as a professional athlete and decided it wasn’t for her. At least at this point in her life. maybe all the negotiations and pressure got to her as well.
You're not sure what's going on but you're sure enough to draw a conclusion that she's ended her career.

A tool extraordinaire.
No I’m not saying she ended her career. I am sure that deleting social media would be a breach of professional contract.
If Valby was an exciting runner with tactical moves and an exciting finish I'd like to follow her career, but she's just a metronome like Gidey was so no loss.

Brands often provide these resources because that is actually how they get value out of these contracts (not by running fast).
No doubt a group the size of Team New Balance boston has at least one full time social media manager, possibly more.

That's like saying a radiologist makes $400k/yr, so she can't afford to get an x-ray.
Managing one athlete's socials is not a full time job.
She hasn’t raced since February but has been tested 4 times already in the 1st quarter of the year. That’s on pace for 16 tests this year which is on par with peak Rupert numbers. Something doesn’t add up and I don’t know why we haven’t seen her race in forever but USADA feels the need to constantly test out of competition.
keep an eye on AIU provisional suspension lists unless New Balance has a crack team of lawyers.

If she became the next Gidey metronome, she would be by far, the greatest female U.S. distance runner in history
Boston seemed like a strange choice for her. I didn't have high expectations that it would work out.
Regarding Instagram I've seen lots of athletes briefly pause it. They clean it up and get rid of some old posts. Then it returns in streamlined fashion.
