Amongst club runners nobody wants to be a Nick Bester, everyone wants to be a John Gilbert, mid 40s, still smashing it (2.16), job, family, no party poppers or crews in matching kit. It's embarrassing. Super shoes are partly to blame for this rubbish, people looking for silver bullets.
John Gilbert smoked, absolute hero. I can’t lie, people such as Nick Bester are genuinely good for the sport in terms of exposure and encouraging those new to the sport or even old timers. However, I do miss the running days before lockdown. Now it’s become a social with average runners cashing in as Influencers. Smart from the brands but as just ruined the authenticity of the brand. Hey ho. Also agree on the above re Mary McCarthy. Get over yourself. The sport owes you nothing, if anything, you owe it everything.
I was marshalling just before Rotherhithe at the 17km post. There was no cooling breeze at all, few clouds and the sun was hot. Runners sweat of course, but it was coming off in bucket loads even at that early point. All credit to the runners dealing with those conditions. If fast times are wanted then maybe organisers need to move it to 4 weeks earlier in the year.
I didn't run London. But I ran Boston in 2024, and this sounds like the exact same conditions (way too warm and lots of sun!).

That's kind of trashy behaviour, tbh. Who shouts expletives at someone running a marathon just because they don't like the youtube videos that person posts? It's not like he was pulling a Matt Choi and obstructing people.

Not sure if anyone’s come across Josh_jogs on instagram but the bloke clearly ran with someone else’s number. Was in the championship start as a 2:50 guy which caught my attention and I wanted to check after. Then all his pictures he’s posted have either cropped his number out or he’s taken it off. Deleted all comments on his instagram calling it out/alluding to it as well. Fortunately caught a screenshot of a story he reposted. Search the number. It ain’t him. Search his name, he’s not there. Hopefully the whole influencer nonsense comes crashing down sooner rather than later and people producing genuinely good videography rather than sob stories can come to the fore

It's really hard to connect with 'runfluencers' whose career is to create content. It's all about generating clicks, views and ultimately attention. 15 minutes behind a 2:50 target. It's really not the end of the world. However when you post targets and expectations to +100k people, that is only going to hinder a performance with pressure, not benefit it.
Games gone! Influencers beginning to ruin the sport. Hope London Marathon does the right thing and bans Josh from their events. Of course he should not be cancelled, he hasn't killed anyone, but for someone who's responsibility as a content creator is to inspire people and to help better the sport, why does cheating the system become appealing to him? Think of the thousands of recreational runners who didn't get in and face rejection every year. Old Joshy Jogs thinking he runs the system. Shame on Tommy too. If he cared about people in the sport, he would have advised Josh not to do it. But hey, they got their instagram pictures and engagement, all is well!!!
We don’t know as he’s not featured it on his Instagram. Conveniently his pictures aren’t containing a bib, seems he took it off straight after the race. There was another Josh Lewis who ran in 4:54 but apart from that, there is no one else on the app under that name.
