(I agree that Fisher with his improved endurance AND finishing speed is one of the main favorites in the 5000m and perhaps THE main favorite in the 10000m coming Tokyo).
The 5000m time: When you ask runners to run first a 5000m and then with only one rest day a 3000m you must understand that they migh not go 100% in the 5000m.
Objectively, Chep was the man when he set the world record and won Oly gold. He’s been overtaken in recent years by Jakob but for a time he was the best.
1. Kicks cannot be improved after the age of 21. It can only be maintained and declined.
2. Fisher in no way should or could improve his kick with respect to himself or with respect to any other past present and future competitor after the age of 22 without the aegis of drugs.
3. Fisher improvement of his kick also comes from having once no kick at all. Those legit athletes who did improved their kick had actually come from having some form of pernicious kick previously. Example Matt Tegenkamp. Fisher had none.

I assume you're referring to the post race interview. As much as fans were disappointed and Gault expressed this potential disappointment, I see Grant's point. He won as the rules were set up and if anyone wanted the win, they could have beaten him in the 5000. It's not his fault. He did what he need to do.
