Ok I'll bite. If she takes her work seriously, she would quietly show up, pace the racers and use this as a workout/race simulation. That's it. Instead she has to show up in a costume so everyone knows she's not actually racing, and almost impedes the runner to the right of her on the start line as her rabbit ears fall off. Disrespectful to the other racers
What?
First of all, visually distinguishing yourself as a pacer is a simple practicality in a large field, I guess you have never seen the Berlin Marathon pacers.
Second, it is respectful to your fellow athletes as it avoids creating the impression that you are the race leader.
Third, it is helpful for the casual fans (if this sport could even have any with people like you sniping at everyone). Every major paced meet I've seen, I hear someone saying 'Oh, the leader just dropped out!' in reference to the pacer.
Finally, it's just fun. Rabbit ears on a pacer is a thing that's been at road races since forever.
If a man her age behaved in this exact same way, this board would rightfully call him out for being a lazy bum (look at the many threads about Spencer Brown for proof).
Men don't get to "not take things seriously" because if we don't our families will starve and not have roof over their head. Must be nice to go through life and not have that pressure.
It is good that you take your family responsibilities seriously (as do I) but there are millions of 32 year old bros out there posting pics of their abs, "winning" local Strava segments, growing out ironic mustaches, and basically acting like the number one thing in life is "living the dream."
Basically every man who is a sub-elite, including Craig Engels, is living the same lifestyle... I don't hate them for that. I think that if they can fund the dream, they should go for it. Same goes for Quigley!
There are literally THOUSANDS of men in their early 30s whos entire existence seems to be "ski bum" level engagement with running, biking, climbing or other sports.
If you are going to give Colleen MF Quigley a hard time for pacing a 10,000, I would love to know what you think of say Julian Heninger (@gaunt.viking) living that semi-pro life with a 13:55/30:xx PBs and a 2:16 marathon debut.
I'm actually a fan and follow his running/socials, but there's a pretty obvious double standard and BS to be called if you want to pretend every adult man out there is held to a standard of paying the mortgage and clothing the kids by age 30. 🤣

"...almost impedes..." 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Those rabbit ears really could’ve killed someone or ruined someone’s TEN THOUSAND METER race!!!

This is exactly how pacers should distinguish themselves. Her white uniform was distinguishing enough.
The rabbit ears were not that, it was a “pay me attention” move. Fine if you want to dress up like Alexi for marathon or ultra races but come on, this was an elite track race. Give an example of any elite male or female runner that has done this while pacing a track race…
she posted a video where she said she was late for an event (q and a I think) and was nonplussed and had a coffee in hand too.
How do you commit to an event, then show up late with a coffee in hand, and a social media video documenting your "not a care in the world" blasé attitude?

Rubbish.
Who's to say that some other runner wouldn't be in...white? Come on, man.
I hate to break it to you, but rabbit ears are actually pretty common in road race pacing. I have never heard of the ears "impeding" another runner.😆🤡
I don't think that the "elite" quality of the race needs to mean "no rabbit ears," but in any case...
Her section had EIGHT FINISHERS, IN TIMES 31:46 - 34:04.
If you are suggesting that rabbit ears don't reflect the solemnity of...the slow heat of a 10,000 time-trial...I am suggested that you get over yourself.

What coffee video are you even talking about? When was this? Where was this.
(You people are literally obsessed. Go cope better.)
In any case, I can think of a dozen reasons off the top of my head that someone could be late with a coffee in hand.😱🤣 (e.g. Maybe her train was delayed and she got a cup while she waited. Maybe she already had a cup in the car, and hit an unexpected traffic jam due to a crash. You may lack a genius imagination, but this isn't hard to contemplate for most adults.)

Colleen hasn't been relevant to the running world since she left Nike in early 2021.
I'm not all that interested in celebrating every misstep or setback. it just is what it is. She has a great pro career. She made several US teams and can call herself an Olympian. She won a US title. She ran a 9:10 steeple. She engaged young girls in a really effective way that not many other runners can compete with.
She was a great addition to US running and had her impact. But it's over now. We don't have to keep talking about it.

She did a event with Matt Choi, which sums up where she is on the athlete spectrum right now.
