How does it quiet it? Gary ran 3:48.82 indoors which is equivalent to a 3:31.84 1500. Critics will say he's 2 seconds slower than that when he's not on a bouncy track.
Now I don't believe that. At Millrose , Gary was doing none of the work and there was zero wind.
But as a former coach, I've got to criticize Gary's tactics. He left the inside of lane 1 and managed to get passed on boht the inside and outside!!! Hold your ground and then Langon would at least have to go outside of Murphy and maybe you end up 2nd.
He may not have realized that TWO guys were still stalking him in the final 100, so going wide was a tactic to hold off Murphy, but he got surprised by Langon being there. Also, if he knew they were both there, he may have just made a calculated bet that only one would have enough left in the tank to get him, so he went for the win rather than 2nd.

I will be at the meet tonight. Margot Appleton, Kimberly May and Shannon Flockart in the 1500, are we looking at a womens CR too?
I too will be there. No offense to these runners but I suspect not. 3:59.9 is pretty fast. I think the weather may not be quite as ideal as last night as well (more for the 5000/10000).

Well if you focus on the one guy who didn’t have the performance of his life…The point is Murphy/Langon ran really fast outdoors and while BU is fast, in reality most of these guys equal their times outdoors or beat them.
Look at these sets of PBs we have by Americans in the NCAA right now (alphabetically).
Green: 3:32.20, 3:50.74, 7:40.09
Langon: 3:33.38, 3:54.60, 7:36.87, 13:14.11
Martin: 3:33.41, 3:48.82, 7:36.09, 13:30.69
Murphy: 3:33.02, 3:53.85, 7:35.47, 13:10.42
Sahlman: 3:33.96, 3:52.82, 7:40.41, 13:38.96
Strand: 3:33.41, 3:48.32, 7:30.15, 13:26.60
Teffra: 3:36.52, 3:52.44
Wolfe: 3:36.25, 3:54.17, 7:30.23, 13:10.75
Amazing! And that doesn't include new pros Young and Blanks. The future is looking good for Team USA!
What's crazier to me is just how competitive it is! Last year it was all Blanks after NCAA xc, then Nico showed up indoors while Blanks was injured, then outdoors it was Parker Wolfe's turn. But Blanks goes to the Olympics! This year it's been much of the same with Ethan Strand dominating until the DMR anchor. Then he gets Gary back in the 3k. All while Teffra upsets Green in the mile. And now Murphy and Langon both beat Gary and now have faster outdoor PRs than everyone except Green. These guys are hungry!
I say if your name isn't Grant Fisher, Cole Hocker, or Yared Nuguse, you're gonna have to be on your A+ game to make the 1500 or 5k team. If Hocker ends up doubling, there might well be only one spot open for each. We'll probably end up having at least a few sub 3:30 and ~12:50 guys sitting at home ringing up Sam Parsons about how to get dual citizenship.
Hobbs is still a level above all these NCAA guys. I think the team will be the same as last year. He’ll probably go 3:28 low or 3:27 this year.
But good to see all these kids running 3:33 and better. The future is bright.
Now, in the 5k, I have a hard time seeing Hocker qualify. 5k will be his 3rd race in 4 days. And Grant is a near lock, barring an injury or a fall.
Nico, Teare, and Blanks could all be 12:50 or better dudes. Teare being completely fresh.
Fair enough. I guess she was still in college when she ran that in the DL?
That would be the all dates record. Just as Kipsang did not ( nor does Murphy now) have the all dates M record. but most refer to the official in season records.
No wonder Martin lost, it looks like he lost to them while at top fitness. Closing in 1:51 is as good as it gets. Murphy who you would slightly write off from winning NCAA's based on indoors is now looking very dangerous at USA's this year, forget about NCAA's. Guys like Langon and Murphy have nothing to lose at USA's going for the team. As we all know all of these pros like Blanks, Kessler, etc, are probably deathly afraid of missing the team this summer. No wonder Blanks is focusing on the 10k, imagine a last lap 5k and you have to kick it with Strand, Martin, Langon, and Murphy.
This meet can be very humid given it’s in NC in the spring, but the weather last night was absolutely perfect. Some of the best runners will get great results if the weather is not ideal, however, when weather is optimal, if you’re fit, you’re gonna run fast. Stanford meet probably averages ideal conditions. Might just be there are more fit kids on the East Coast rn that get rocked by humidity/heat every other year at this meet

For those who did not see UPenn Indoor race at a mile, the same thing happened, only Langon beat both at the line. Martin leading, Murphy gets him, does not see Langon thru on the inside, all in 3:54.x

with pacing lights, 4:03-4:05 from any of the three would be unsurprising
I am sure Nurmi would have felt the same way looking at the shoes Coe and the rest used. It's a natural evolution of the sport.
Actually it’s the opposite of natural evolution. It’s technology being used as an aid to help runners run faster than would be possible without the tech. Nothing natural about that.

We have rarely had a humid Raleigh Relays. We have had snow, cold rain, wind, and occasionally very warm temps. That said, the past 4-5 years have been really good but last night might be the best I've ever seen.
Today looks really good but with some variable winds.
