How so? Their 7th runner at nationals has a 9:07 3000. 10th best in the conference were 4:36/9:01/16:12. If no potential for any of this things, she is merely taking up time from the coach and trainer and advisor and doctor.
Isn't the coach at least somewhat aware of who might be on the roster and what their credentials are? If the coach isn't concerned about it...and seems to do pretty well....why should you be concerned about it?
It is great that she is on the roster. Smart move because of her connection to an Olympian. They have unlimited spots right now. It would be the same as adding a Grant Fisher connection at Stanford or Cole.Hocker at Oregone. But some idiots think that she can place in the conference meet when in reality she isn't top 15 on her own team.
Utah runner here. Running is popular in Utah year round. A lot of women run marathons/ and halfs to stay in shape. They are all fast routinely running sub 1:20 in long runs. They meet super early and have groups that train together (see Keira Damato posts and it's like a fast running mom club). They stick with it and don't stop when they have kids/ jobs. It's a culture thing.

So why are you concerned that she is "merely taking up time from the coach....."
Good to finally see that psycho nut job Glitter Bomb Turbo get kicked off a thread.
Maybe Ms.Mantz is training for a Marathon. Being on a team with faster runners would help pull her through workouts ect. She might end up 6-7 person. Or, if someone gets injured she could step in.
Good luck to her. That is obviously an ideal training situation for her to drop into the 15s if she runs next year as well. She was, by the way, already on a two year mission. This also suggested to me a hack that Diljeet has apparently not yet exploited for the women's team, namely, since many of them are married as undergraduates, that now women go on missions sometimes, the frosh can go on a two year mission, same as the men, then, after marrying, have a child or two, take the medical redshirt, and compete from age 22-26 or later.
You do realize that these women would then have young children to take care of which would significantly impact their ability to train and race…

You do realize that women get a marked hormonal advantage from pregnancy, which has led to top performances in the year following childbirth, right? 120 days higher red blood values.

You do realize that even with a hormonal advantage, having children may still result in a net decrease in performance due to a litany of other factors including lack of sleep, postpartum depression, conditions such as diastasis recti and pelvis organ prolapse, difficulty finding / affording childcare to allow for training and racing, etc.
PS - Please know that you are debating with a mother of two young children who still trains and races competitively :)
