he looked really uncomfortable out there. he got bumped and went almost to the back of the pack and could never recover. he's gotta be kicking himself. No Strand, no Martin, a 3:53 winning time which he can run in his sleep and he finishes 8th.
A 3:52.82 miler can run an unrabbited 3:53 in his sleep with yesterday's prelim in his legs?
I thought Abel Teffra was a pretty “random” winner, and then I looked at his TFRRS profile and it’s actually not surprising at all. He was 5th in the mile last indoor Nats, he’s been tearing it up this season, and while only 65th at XC Nats, that was a huge improvement in his strength from prior XC seasons.
He’s American, for those who don’t know, and was only a 4:17 miler in HS if I’m not mistaken.

Sahlman is a perplexing athlete. Like I just can’t figure out what his path to winning these races are. He has 1.45 speed, a pretty large endurance threshold because 7.40 is also very strong - and yet in a race like that where I figure he should at least be in a position to challenge, he’s just way out of it. So does he need a brutal sustained pace from the start to outlast guys? Not sure about that either. Just a confusing athlete to understand.
Actually I have no idea, team race hinges on Yaseen Abdalla in the 3k, USC/ARK are both in the fast heat of the 400, but Arkansas is seeded #1, Auburn has no scoring left, OK State and Georgia don't have enough potential points left.

I dont want to use the word 'regress' because his times are getting better every year. NCAA miles are just so damn tactical and he runs so many time trials i don't think he's used to being in races where everyone suddenly slams on the brakes. he looked fine for much of the race and I thought he was in good position but when it slowed around the 2:30 mark he got bumped and fell back and just didnt seem to know how to recover.
curious if he's able to put the mile behind him and run a solid 3k
