Top Gun 2- sadly, I agree. What if someone said to you 5 yrs ago Top gun would be the best you could hope for?
It's been....not good. Look at Oscar nominees from past 3 years....you will turn pale.
Ain't no Godfathers, Rockys, Jaws, shawshanks, or virtually any comedies at all coming through that door. It's horror movies,4th tier marvel movies, and super pc/ sad/ message-ie movies from here out.
The Rocky movies, and only the first one was decent, shouldn’t be compared to the Godfather movies and Shawshank Redemption. Stallone isn’t much of an actor and wasn’t anywhere near being a story teller like Puzo or King.
Rocky buying some waterfront property in Lake Tahoe, and having Paulie whacked early in series, would have helped.
If you want to avoid duds, a good idea is just to go watch the Oscar best picture winners going all the way back to the beginning. I've seen all of them except about 5 and I've seen very few bad movies although some of them may be a little bit tedious. Since I've pretty much seen them all (and I'm not always in the mood for a 1930s movie), I started watching all the movies nominated for best picture and most of those are good too. Then I've watched a few where someone won best actor (e.g. The Father, which was a fantastic movie), eventually I'll watch all of those too. Mix in an action/sci-fi/secret agent movie once in a while and it's a pretty good strategy to keep seeing good movies.
Those Oscar winning movies are usually terrible. If you have bad taste in movies then those are the ones you'll watch. There's plenty of good movies that have been released in the past 5 years.
