Tuohy to race 5k

So we have heard it straight from the horse's mouth: Katelyn Tuohy cannot run under 14:55 clean. So if she makes real improvement over the next few years and posters claim she is doping, you can come here and say "I told you so".

Tuohy was a phenomenal HS and college runner. She is still a good pro but she's not on the level (compared to her peers) that she once was. This is clear.

Probably best to let her career play out and see where it ends up. Comparing Tuohy to her own past is a waste of time. Prep and college stardom rarely leads to equal stardom on the pro level. The best athletes in one age group are often not the best athletes as careers move on.

Of course she’s sus. And always takes the opportunity to run distances that are not offered in any other meet to show that she has some kind of American lead. Yet when push comes to shove with the true elites she loses big time

I would argue Tuohy is more suspicious. Dominant in a division where there is literally 0 drug testing.

That millrose 3000m was a 1233. Today was well over 1240. She’s currently a strong contender for the 5k Outdoors team, if she can hold it together. (but I said that last year, too.)

Yes. She peaked years ago. Sad to see her fade away after being such a great talent at a young age but it always happens.

I don’t know how we could set a ceiling on performance by a particular group—international male competitors or American female distance runners. The top US women are running about what I did as a sub-elite Canadian college runner 40 years ago. That doesn’t seem unrealistic at all to me given their dedication, super shoes, maybe some developments in training and track surfaces (although I’m not really convinced either of those have advanced that much since the 70s). KT could put a few years’ solid training together and run 14:40, 14:30. Seems believable?

You are sort of not following. Astro attacks every woman who is better than Tuohy. He even accuses high school runners who merely are approaching her current times. He makes statements that people throw back at him regarding doping accusations. That is what you responded to.

For example, he forever claimed that making big jumps was a sign of doping. But now that Tuohy has a one off 3000 from years ago, he recently claimed that steady progression is a sign of doping. If high school runners come close to Tuohy's high school times, he says they are doping. Anyone who has run faster than her lifetime PRs, he says are doping. His recent post said that the limit for undoped athletes is 15:00 or 14:55. He accused every runner in history who has run faster than Tuohy, of being a doper. That is insanity.

Thanks for the clarification. What I don’t get is why someone purporting to be a KT fan would set a ceiling like 14:50 for a “natural” athlete. She could have a good long stretch of solid training, injury- and illness-free, and crack 14:50 or better, which seems entirely possible.

Agreed. You sound sincere. Astro is not. He threw that time out because he thinks that is her ceiling because she has stagnated. Don't worry, if she runs 14:30, he will raise the doping bar at least for her. He will say that she is clean but everyone faster is doping and anyone who is close behind is doping. He has been doing it since she was in high school. It is a shame. She had a great career and has always been humble. But people like to push back on his silly claims.

Days go by. Weeks go by. Months go by. Years go by. We wake up one day and realize that time has passed us by. She hasn't had a good race in several years. The claim is that she has been coming off of injury since I don't know when. She went from the best high school runner to a very good college runner to an average sub elite pro. It happens.

I thought she would have done better in this race. Bummer.

HOWEVER, she still ran a great fast mile this season. And this 15:07 shows that her fitness is ALMOST back to where it was 2 years ago.

I see her races overall this season as a good sign for 2 reasons:

1) She showed up 3 times this short season and tried! She didn’t avoid giving things a shot.

2) She ran solid times that show good fitness going into the outdoor season.
