Agree with this totally, not sure I see the value of this, other than most likely garnering another excellent PR? He must have had some build up to carry these efforts so far, I like to see guys tee it up, but let's be clear this is no race, it is a made for BU TT , no one is beating him here, I would not think. I think he runs under 12:53.
I think there's a possibility Hocker sets the wr. Hocker only lost to Fisher by .2 in the 3k. Fisher is definitely better at the 5k right now, but hocker will likely have teare with him until at least 4.2k which will make a huge difference. Fisher was alone for 3k. There's a chance.
1) No. Just no. The idea that Hocker will beat Fisher's 5000 pb and WR is laughable.
2) This race shouldn't be allowed. There should be a dead window to protect the sanctity of the US champs. If Hocker and Teare wanted to run fast in the 5000 at BU, they should have done it last week with Fisher. You shouldn't be allowed to pick up World qualifiers while skipping out on USAs.
3) Hello Cooper. You of all people should not be skipping USA indoors. I told you last year not to skip World xc as that was the only US team you'd be making in 2024 and that proved to be correct. You are not good enough to be skipping opportunities to run for the US.
This might be rojos best post ever.
Since indoor meets are more fan friendly both in person and on tv, are perfect time of year for maximal eyeballs, id propose that the top American medalist in indoor worlds gets a spot on the outdoors world team (whether Olympics or world champs). It probably wouldn't be any worse a team member than whomever gets third in the outdoor champs. Would someone like hocker or hoppel risk someone else guaranteeing their sport in worlds indoors and only having two spots to race for in outdoors?? Maybe, but it could really cost them. Alternatively, someone like cooper teare could see it as a chance of stealing a spot, getting in great fitness and putting on a great show for fans in indoor. If those rules applied last year, it would have made no difference in the Olympic team (unless the 60 medals counted for a 100m slot), but would bring a ton of excitement to meets that should matter.
It's only two races. 3k and 5k. Then he's done until GST.
Plus the 2.18.2 1000m which is still not nothing. So really it's 3 and it doesn't change that GST is a really large step up in terms of racing commitment compared to previous seasons, with a full summer season to also manage.
Compared to what he did im 2021? And no, it’s not nothing. But it’s not the same effect as the balls to the wall 1500 that Fisher had to run and not win.
What will they run? Will Teare make it close and what will Nordas do? My prediction is Teare makes it close but Hocker wins in 12:50
The clear reality is that Hocker is extremely suspicious. Going from a non factor in 1500m races to now breaking WRs left and right is laughable. This sport is a farce.
I just don't see hocker having it in him to get near the record. he's at least 3 seconds faster than fisher in a 1500, and already lost that speed advantage to him by 3000. the strength decay compared to fisher should be even greater going up to 5000.
but they run the races for a reason. just trying to see this logically.
I disagree. Expect the unexpected.
Anything can happen. There are examples of runners competing and excelling above their established distance. You remember 1500 specialist Alan Webb running a world class time to beat Ritzenhein in a 10k? Chris Solinsky who surprised all the experts with a sub-27 10k AR against Rupp.
Super shoes. Bicarb. Times I ran 40 years ago at 5k/10k held up until the damn broke 2-3 years ago. There's a bit of cognitive dissonance going on unless you recognize super shoes and Bicarb. Malmo will disagree but who cares. We all know malmo.
Hell, I'm rooting for Cooper Teare to set the record. Or Hocker. Why not.

The above post is a farce. Learn something about the sport. Then you can post.

I agree. We live in an era where facts don't matter by some who control the narrative. But facts do matter. Thank you for posting.
They are not going for the world record they just want the standard. If they wanted the record they would have run with Fisher last week.
I agree they should be doing this at USAs, especially Cooper. Cooper should want to go to China. He is a great runner but he is in the greatest era of USA distance running. He is popular and has a good social media presence. He should get on the world stage as much as he can. A world indoor medal would be a huge confidence boost too. Something like that can help propel you to another level. Look at Georgia Bell or even Beamish after performing well at World Indoors. Ollie Hoare should also be trying to go to China

They are afraid of getting smoked by a nobody, so the crippling fear causes them to do nothing, rather than to try something. At least at Outdoor USAs they will get smoked by a somebody and apparently they are at peace with that.
I feel bad for Teare. Seems every year he throws down a ridiculous time or two and then in championship races completely chokes. His only chance to make a team IMO is the 10k as the 3rd guy. He has no chance in the 1500 with Hocker, Goose, Kessler, now Strand, and 1-2 Washington kids, maybe Noey if he steps up. The 5k is Fisher, Wolfe, Blanks, Nico (if he runs), Goose (if he runs), Nur, and Woody (if it's a tactical race) will all beat him in championship races. In the 10k, I think he can beat everyone not names Fisher and Young at this distance as long as he doesn't let it be a slow race, coming down to a kick he just doesn't seem to have despite his speed.

Wahh Wahhh Wahhh, compete in the worthless championship that only I care about, Wahhh Wahhh.

There have always been guys close to making teams but not regularly doing so. He could target having a career like Ben True which would be something to be proud of.

Isn’t it the opposite for Teare in the 10000m?He’s run 1:47/3:33, so the slower the pace, the better chance he will have of making the team. Except for Nuguse, it’s the same for the 5000m
