I haven’t watched too many Grant Fisher interviews, but when I do he always seems to be very insightful, emotionally intelligent, honest, etc. Impressive.
Use of bicarbonate of soda is no joke or fad. I read about its use back around 1990 in my Anatomy & Physiology book as a proposed agent to help improve athletic performance.

Goes back alot further than that. Had a teammate back in '73 trying to set a school record in the mile ended up 4 seconds short and foaming mouth and upset stomach .
Somewhere between clean and doping, there should be a separate category for bicarb users, and Grant can reign over that category of semi-desperate athletes.
It's no different than finding the right type of foods that work for a particular athlete. No different than altitude tents, vest packs with ice before a race, over-speed training for sprint athletes, and a whole host of other methods to improve performance that don't hurt the body.
This is something that should be banned. Is there a test for it if they ban it? The shoes and the bicarb are ruining our sport and making it the realm of those who can afford such things. I know everyone of the elite level can get them, but this gets HS kids to try to buy super expensive gear and bicarb.
baking soda is like 2 dollars at the store and running shoes/spikes aren't that expensive compared to gear for other sports. Spikes are at most 200 dollars and no one is buying the newest 300$ alphaflys consistently.
kinda bummer to hear, wish these guys were doing this clean even though it's technically not a PED
“Admits,” like it’s some sorta scandal. You might as well say marathoners “admit” to taking carbs during a race, or hobby joggers “admit” to carb loading.
Exactly. There was no “confession.” He stated that he was using bicarb like every other high level endurance athlete.

$2 baking soda isn't what this thread is about. Try $70 for 4 servings, which gets really expensive fast when you start using for a training, and not just racing.
Maurten develops carbohydrate-rich sports fuel for endurance sports. Based on hydrogel technology and natural ingredients. Used by latest marathon winners.

King of Physics down voted this because he has none of those traits mentioned in your post.
Ironic, on their website, Maureen advertises for a clean sport, hypocritical! World Athletes, WADA, and USADA should ban them and their cheating athletes!
The sport needs more dramatic feuds to become more popular. I suggest the OP works with Fisher to turn this into a street race/fight challenge like in the Lion King.
OP: “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t rip apart this so-called ‘clean sport’ narrative.”
Grant Fisher: “Oh, you must understand—the pressures of elite racing, the need for legal performance optimization…”
OP: ”…Are no longer valid excuses! Step down, Fisher.”
Grant Fisher: “Oh, oh, well, I would—naturally—but there’s just one little problem. You see them?” [gestures toward the science-literate posters in the thread] “They understand physiology.”
Science-Literate Posters: “Well, we don’t. Taking bicarb is perfectly legal and well-documented.”
OP: “The choice is yours, Fisher. Either confess to cheating or fight the court of public opinion.”
Grant Fisher: “Oh, must it all end in scandal? I’d hate for misinformation to ruin an athlete’s reputation. Wouldn’t you agree?”
OP: “That’s not gonna work. We’ve moved past that nonsense.”
Grant Fisher: “But what about the casual fans? Have they moved past it?”
Confused Fan: “Wait, what is he talking about?”
OP: {Grinning maliciously} “Ahh, so you haven’t told them the truth, have you? Well, Fisher, now’s your chance. Tell them… tell them what you’ve been taking!”
{The thread pauses. Everyone waits.}
Grant Fisher: {Stepping forward, steel in his voice} “I take… bicarbonate.”
{Gasps from the uninformed. A silence falls.}
OP: “You see! He admits it! CHEATER!” {Thunder crashes in the background.}
Grant Fisher: “No. It’s legal. It’s literally buffering against lactic acid.”
OP: “If it weren’t for you, the sport would still be pure! It’s your fault we have this mess! Do you deny it?”
Grant Fisher: “No.”
OP: {Gravely, with forced authority} “Then… you’re… guilty.”
Grant Fisher: “No. Using bicarb isn’t doping.”
OP: “Oh, Fisher, you’re in trouble now. But this time, the ‘clean sport police’ aren’t here to protect you. And now EVERYONE… KNOWS… WHY!”
The problem with PEDs is that they are bad for your health. Otherwise, they would just be vitamin supplements. Bicarb isn't bad for our health.
It's probably just a dumb fad though. I find it hard to believe that something so obvious has only recently been "discovered". Also consider that athletes might be getting paid to promote bicarb supplements.
The way to deliver the Bicarb so as to digest it effectively, without negative side effects, is what has been discovered. That Bicarb aided performance was obvious for decades, but the side effects almost canceled it out, now it far far more effective and has no negatives.
Man consumes baking soda in a way that doesn’t make you sh*t your pants. The horror!
