Off the top of my head, I only know of a couple of teams that will be immediately affected: RIT women's track (NCAA Division III). Wagner women's fencing (Division I).

To the "why is there any significance in transitioning" question, I think it just plays into a long, unimaginative narrative of perceived power.

Ditto. We spent years arguing against what was then a strawman argument that trans rights would lead to transwomen being allowed to compete in women's sport. "Of course not", said we. Until Lia Thomas came along and actually did it, setting the gay rights movement back 30 years in the process. It shouldn't have taken so long to fix this when most of us on the left didn't agree with it either.

Chatham University (D3) Softball.

The rower at Ithaca College competed in Novice Eight last season, and the softball player at Chatham did not play a single game. She is essentially a practice player who is used for intrasquad scrimmage. (Something she will still be allowed to do under the new rule.)

RR's favorite site also lists a diver at Middlebury (D3) as a trans athlete. There is no collaborating evidence that she is trans.

Here is what I am concerned about. This comes as the result of a presidential executive order. What is to stop the next Democrat president from simply issuing his own executive order to replace Trump's order? Are we going to have the NCAA yo-yo'ing back and forth on this issue every four to eight years?

I think the contradiction comes from the false premises that (1) all trans people are alike and (2) they have a common goal.

To use your color analogy, let's assume cis men are blue and cis women are red. Trans and nonbinary people are shades of purple. But our society has mostly recognized only blue and red. So purple people have to be put into one of the categories. There are basically four ways to do this.

1. All purple people should be categorized as blue.

2. All purple people should be categorized as red.

3. We need to draw a line somewhere in the purple category and put some people in red and others in blue.

4. We need to create a third category for purple people. (This can be subdivided into red/purple and blue/purple if that's preferred.)

NCAA's new policy is #1. I don't think many people support #2. Some trans people support #3 and want to be in the color they identify with. (*) Some trans people support #4 and will be happy with the third category (whether they are nonbinary or otherwise.)

If we go with #3, then we need to determine how the line should be drawn and who belongs to which group. This could be done either for all purposes or different line for different settings.

We could also use some combination of #1, 3, and 4 for different settings. For example, I cannot think of any good argument against having unisex bathrooms at public facilities. (#3) But some people hate complexity and ambiguity, and want everything as simple as possible.

* It is a civil rights issue when trans people are not placed in the category they desire to be in, whether it is red, blue or purple.

Lia Thomas had been already banned from competitive swimming before this EO. So why was this necessary?

A victory for women and girls! Lawsuits will be filed by the unhinged, time to make this a law. You want to transition, fine. Do what you want. Tradeoff, no competitive sports against your new gender.

Ask International Planned Parenthood Foundation how that has worked for the past 40+ years.

I sometimes think intersexphobia on the board is far worse than transphobia. People here hate trans people. They have utter disdain for intersex people.

The timing on this is pretty interesting considering how slowly the NCAA usually moves. A

2) Now that we have a common-sense measure to keep men out of women's sports, it would certainly be appropriate to move towards addressing DSD issues in a thoughtful and scientific way. Hopefully someone will do that.
