I love this plan! The long game is to take Denmark then Norway and we will have Jakob in a USA speed suit for 2028. We'll finally have an American 1500m champ we can be proud of. No asterisk needed this time round.
I wasn't dodging anything, Jackman. I was specifically responding to a very stupid point about Greenland's GDP.
The point about acquiring Denmark is that we will no longer have to ask Denmark or negotiate "free trade" with Denmark or coordinate with Denmark. You get that, correct? You seem to be dodging a discussion of the importance of Greenland and the benefits to America of Greenland being US territory.
I genuinely cannot think of any benefits to Greenland being US territory that are not also benefits of Greenland being US-allied territory.
The cost, meanwhile, is that the US will never have an ally again.
The Trump team likely is unaware of the social/welfare benefits currently available to Greenland residents. Even if given the chance the Greenland voters may not think positively of giving up those perks for US citizenship. Yes, many people in the world want to move to the US. But what is the historical number of Greenlanders seeking to do rather than staying in Greenland or moving to Denmark or some other country?

Our total imports from Greenland is $39 million in goods (mostly seafood). Our total exports to Greenland is $6 million in goods (mostly cars and electronics).
That's a grand total of $45 million in trade between the two countries.
39 million?!?! If I knew these Greenlanders were gouging us on lobster and whale blubber that much, I would have advocated for an invasion a lot earlier.
Donkey, I'd bet that if you ever bother to read up about the strategic economic and military importance of Greenland, that whatever sources you consult will have little or no mention of its current GDP. It's just not a number that any informed or intelligent person would consider a factor in this. Greenland's current GDP has almost nothing to do with Greenland's overall economic (or military) value to the US.
You're being really stupid, repeatedly (e.g., "Why do we need access to the Arctic?" "too far from everything" "That base isn't much needed"). But I don't see a way to convince you of that without you doing your own homework first.
The paper contends that Greenland can leverage a nonexistent shipping route through the arctic in exchange for investment in its infrastructure development on the off chance that it can eventually exploit its resources as it is currently an underdeveloped country.
It's a sales pitch for making Greenland a welfare state of the United States.
I genuinely cannot think of any benefits to Greenland being US territory that are not also benefits of Greenland being US-allied territory.

yes! join america where we celebrate stupidity, you get to have crippling medical debt, you have to pay for every little thing, people who have no clue get to run the country,
Control and profit from the commercialization of the natural resources, for one. I'm sure you can think of others if you genuinely tried.
Pretty wild prediction. Exaggerated, extreme, dramatic, and highly unlikely.
Why would a country ally with the US if the US is going to invade them anyway?
You are really dodging on the "benefits to Greenland being US territory that are not also benefits of Greenland being US-allied territory."
I'm not going to dig up and parse Trump's words, but I don't think he threatened an invasion (yet). He was asked a loaded question about whether he would rule out US military action to acquire Greenland and he gave the standard presidential response of "nothing is off the table." In any case, the writing is on the wall. Greenland will be US territory (I think by the end of 2025) and Denmark will still be an ally. This is good news for America.

We could also take Sweden, and force that traitor Mondo to represent his country.
Or execute him as a traitor. And who would really want Sweden. Tough call

That’s one of my least favorite sayings. Im pretty sure dropping a nuke on Greenland isn’t “on the table”.
re the yokels giddy that mute egede is talking danish independence, i doubt they would want to trade one sugar daddy for another.
and you fail to grasp that if greenland's affiliations go highest bidder we don't necessarily win. china and russia will want in. next thing you know china or russia have bases on greenland. there is an island that is joint danish and canadian. generally it's just a few hundred miles' trip from greenland to canada.
people who chuckle at trump being a russian agent, you couldn't draw it up better. like having missiles in cuba.
oh, and i get that land in the north, if climate change continues, will become valuable as it melts. trump, as typical, is thinking golf courses when he should be worrying about competing bases.
You are being absolutely ridiculous if you think Russia or China is going to have the ability to purchase or lease land for military bases in Greenland. I can't begin to describe how stupid your beliefs are. Back to contrarian school for you, Bozo.
And Denmark could hardly be a "sugar daddy" for Greenland. The US won't be either, although I am absolutely positive that Greenlanders will see the benefits of US citizenship (the most sought after citizenship in the world) when it comes time (later this year) for them to make decisions.

just like it would be typical myopia to think independent greenland only comes out our way, it would be naive to assume land is only ever leased for market rates. it's not like the UK had hong kong leased for free or we pay less than my mortgage for gitmo.

You threatened an invasion. In this thread.
Indeed.
This is good news for America. Incorporate a resource-rich, untapped, huge geographical area, which has enormous military and security importance as well. The sooner we get this done, the better.
If MAGA collectively all moves there and takes it over, that would a dream for the homeland. America will just use it for natural resources in the meantime.
You guys gave been asleep for the last hour. Trump is expanding in all directions. Add Central American and the Caribbean to his Trump Destiny! Bannon calls it Fortress America. It will be Trumpland. Will Trump then stop expanding? ... probably not.
Trump: "We're going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring."
Bannon: It's in our "geopolitical and geostrategic interest to control the sea lanes in our own backyard. The Gulf of America has to happen." "Clearly that is the key choke point here in this region." "China is going on a buying frenzy" with debt-trap diplomacy!"
"Let's put that map up (shows map of America controlling the entire continent of North America_. ... For the hardest-core America First guys, okay? If you want Fortress America, Trump's giving you Fortress America. Look at that right there, all the way up from Panama to Greenland, and he's talking about Canada."
