Interesting that this man is certain he knows the limits of human performance with absolutely no doubt at all. It’s a bit like ‘if man was meant to fly…’
Where do you get the idea he's certain he knows the limits of human performance? I certainly don't but I know at some point everyone would find a particular performance questionable and even more so if it comes from an athlete from a country which has had large numbers of athletes caught doping and where there's little to know outside of competition testing.
You don't find 2:09:56 by a woman questionable? That's fine. But what if it was 1:59:56 or 1:49:56? Maybe you'd never find any of these times questionable if there's no failed test, no where about failures, no name on a BALCO-like list. But a considerable number of people who follow the sport do find 2:09:56 from a woman very questionable and think WA should at least have acknowledged some of these questions when they ratified the record and maybe talk a bit about why people find this record so questionable and also maybe try to take some real steps toward restoring credibility to the sport.
You don't know the limit of performance because you have loose morals you feeling me??? It starts with your morals and all reason and persuasion stems from morality alright sir!!!!!!!
There is no true objectivity or fact like rekrunner believes, only facts in space and time called illusions you feeling me????? Facts are but illusions of measurement which are illusions of MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super Advanced Physics teaches you these things!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't allow yourself to set a limit, you are just gonna go down a moral slippery slope man!!!!!!! You will kill 1 dude today and rationalize it's only 1, and tomorrow you kill 2 and do the same, there's not gonna be a limit to how many you kill!!!!! The same analogy applies to WRs!!!!!!
Four demands : (1) the disclosure and suspension and coaches and agents linked to athletes who test positive for doping, (2) enhanced testing, particularly in East Africa, (3) reporting back on the enhanced testing on a half yearly basis and (4) to immediately suspend all athletes from competition for the balance of a calendar year from any country that has more than 10 of its athletes test positive during the calendar year.
There was also a fifth demand: "compel WA, AIU and WADA to disclose all testing, if any, conducted on Chepngetich, in the 12 months prior to 13 October 2024,"
The petition doesn't seem to be very well thought out or particularly informed. They included WADA, who does very little testing, but fail to include NADOs, or the IOC (responsible for Olympic Games testing). (I suppose not including NADOs would address the concern of NADOs covering up positives.) Athletes are the main stakeholders here. Do these petitioners have buy-in from Athlete representatives for any requests to remove existing confidentiality and privacy? What is Peter Eriksson's role exactly? Does he currently belong to a WADA signatory? Is he even a stakeholder?
The motivation here seems to be "profound scepticism by leading athletics experts (who?) because it exceeds the limits of female human potential (how does he know this?)" which alleges "is an embodiment and symbol of the abject failure of World Athletics (WA), the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to detect and control rampant doping in international athletics". Lots of assumptions in there.
I have to chime in with others that say #4 seems poorly thought out. Why are country borders relevant boundaries (especially since the petition doesn't seem to include NADOs)? As written, it would penalize larger populated countries, like the USA, India and China, compared to lesser populated countries like Canada, and European countries. When viewed with #2, it will also penalize countries who are tested more often. At the very least, it should be proportional to athletes tested. There is also the question of justice when penalizing innocent athletes on the basis of decisions and acts by 10 of their countrymen/women. China and India and the USA will be regularly banned each fall/winter.
Here are some more observations:
#1: Something seems grammatically wrong with that demand. Are they asking for disclosure of coaches and agents, or suspension? How does the AIU or WA know who is the coach or agent? What if there are multiple coaches on a team? For "US Post"/"Discovery", who was the coach and agent, and where would Ferrari or Fuentes fit into this petition? It looks like World Athletics already discloses "representative" in athlete profiles on their website.
#2: The AIU already does, or requires, enhanced testing in East Africa, for countries it deems "high risk", based on some combination of success and doping history and other factors. In 2023, 47% of AIU testing was in Africa -- the double of Europe and the quadruple of North America and the triple of Asia, South America and Oceania combined. 60% of AIU testing is in distance and road events.
#3: What kind of reports are they requesting? World Athletics already requires reporting of all sanctions within 20 days, and reports notice of allegations and suspensions on its website. What is the added value of adding another reporting burden? WADA publishes both testing reports and anti-doping reports annually. These reports are published sometime later, on an annual basis, likely because there is a lot of data to collect and compile. It doesn't seem realistic to request a timely report each 6 months, especially to meet the demands of petitioners who have no stake in the process.
Who will pay for the increased testing and reporting overhead? The petitioners? The countries who are being regularly banned? Canada?
