Last year seeds for that meet were out of control for teams from Wisconsin and the redshirt Gophers. Not surprised to see fast seeds from the Oles to get in the fast heat.
Heard the music at last weekend's meet was so unbearably loud that Dave Ricks couldn't communicate with Gabe during the 3k. Classic underhanded Power tactics.
MIAC Indoor 5K record is only 14:20.51. Will we see that fall tomorrow evening? What's the Ole fieldhouse record? Surely that will also be in danger. Where are Lars and the Gophers? McKee & Edwards decided running together sounded more fun?

I predict the record gets broken. I'll guess/predict that Mo goes about 14:15 and Turlington comes in at about 14:18. This is based off the assumption that they have a pacer lined up to take it through 3-4K at ~14:20 pace.
Some of the seeding at the Ole meets is sus. Only nine guys in the first heat of the 5000m so Power can tell everyone he had three heats. The 600m only has two fast guys in each heat and some of the seed times are beyond ridiculous. You shouldn't be able to submit a time if you haven't run it.

Maybe the first time I'm defending Power, but the 5K is pretty clearly set up for the fastest runners and there is a huge gap from the 9th to 10th runner. The 10th runner is an Ole, so I'm sure Power thought it was better for him to run in front and not get lapped or in the way of the lapping runners.
They did those seedings last week too. Our coach said the NCAA changed the rules and has moved to a time trial with top two rather than regular races.
My source(s) is telling me Matt Lepine is pacing through 3k at approximately 14:30 (8:40) pace. That’ll leave Mo et al with a bit of work yet to get the MIAC record and put them on the fringe of Nats even ic they maintain.
Also, the race of the weekend appears to be the 3k at the U. Mo will have plenty of help pushing for a fast time there. Great overall conference simulation weekend. I suspect if he gets a national level time in either he focuses on the mile until conference. He’s got the endurance so work on that speed.
Bati is taking the set two MIAC records in the same weekend serious by going after it in the first weekend. He can then now worry about racing until conference and lay down a fat training block.
Interesting to see that Bethel is no running their top sprinters at St. Olaf and will still likely win that meet. Guess it makes sense to go to the U for their top guys to get competition. I’m sure a gold medalist knows way more about seeding and which meet to choose because Parent will actually have competition at the U. He’d race a teammate and 2-3 55 second guys the way St. Olaf is building heats.

I don't think that's a rule at all. The Gopher meet isn't doing that and as the D1 flagship school I'm sure they know a lot more about hosting and rules than St. Olaf.
I've heard Dave called Power out via a MIAC email concerning the rules, so stay tuned. I'd expect heat changes by this afternoon.
I doubt its a rule, its probably a general guideline that when people are going for fast times indoors, you want to put them in specific lanes.
Ex. nobody wants to try to run a fast time from lane 1. I was never a big 400 indoor runner, but I think they try to put the fastest guys in like 2/3 lanes from the furthest outside lane.

Definitely a new rule 2) In the 200 Meters, 400 Meters, 500 Meters and 600 Meters, sections shall be formed by first seeding ranked competitors in groups of two left to right only, per the number of sections scheduled for the event (ranked competitors first and second assigned to the last section; ranked competitors third and fourth assigned to the next to last section; ranked competitors fifth and sixth assigned to the third to last section, and so on).

Hey, I’m not a track coach, so if you could cite where the rule is that’d be cool. I’m mostly curious as to the context. I know in the past there was a lot of leeway in certain rules, except at certain championship races.
Things like uniform rules, seeding etc. Like conference cross country, they didn’t really care if all ~60 people on a big team had the exact uniform, but they were pretty strict at regions Same with gps watches. Definitely a no go at regions, but nobody cared at most meets.

Yeah, I predicted Mo @14:15… I’m awesome!
I did probably overestimate Turlington. Still a ton of respect for the kid, but Will Kelly was great last year and 14:23 still lit.

Also, I’ll point out that 8:37 3k is nearly perfect 14:20 pace. I’m the king of actual good sources.
Pretty poor seeding by Power other than Turlington over performing his seed. He kept some good runners out of fast heats and made the night much longer than needed.
Seemed like he and the Augsburg coach were arguing again. I also heard he wouldn’t let elderly parents sit near long jump and then his female assistant sat there. He continues to be a poor representative of St. Olaf and coaching in general.
Power yelling at the Carleton staff and athletes for closing the garage door when it was blowout freezing cold air onto the track was also incredibly unreasonable.
