Yes, the individual in question was a walk-on and not among the top 7 runners, nor even fast enough for the school's B team. I would say for the performance gap, the individual's personal best for the 5k was around 15:20, while the athlete targeted by the sabotage was a sub-14-minute runner. The bullying resulted in the individual's temporary suspension from the team for six weeks. I guess it doesn't come as a shock that internal team bullying and harassment can arise, particularly in programs with large rosters where competition for coveted top 7 spots is intense.
You know this is a joke? They had a running gag on the show about his HS track days and his rival running him out to lane 6 in the anchor of the 4x4 at the championship. This is suppose to be the rematch. He used to talk about this in his comedy stand up, also.
He has a really good tape about his HS sports days. It covers Football (being a legacy player punchline his jersey scored a TD. ) Basketball (his team beating Wilt's) and of course Track from the HJ to the 4x4.

An adult drafted off my 7 year old son for half of the 1600 at a club meet. She sprinted by him at the end and a solid number of people booed. It was a weird environment for the crowd reaction. I punished my son severely for losing, but the crowd was a little dirty toward her. As for my son, he now twitches like the inmate slinky in Tango and Cash. We can’t allow our boys to get chicked, even at age 7.
Disclaimer for the nutjobs here: I did not hurt my son and my wife has a faster mile time than both of us. Pays to marry a winner!
I was the next runner in at the Turkey Trot in Troy. The video doesn't show it but there is a manhole cover at the finish that the kid stepped in that made him hip check into the other athlete. The worst part about that was the officials at the race determined it was not a DQ, but because the parents went crazy all over social media and threatened assault charges, the race later disqualified the athlete.
It was a bad collision, but it was made way worse by the helicopter parents of a 22 year old.
A fellow club runner who is now unfortunately gone from us, was a cutthroat competitor.
A runner was about 50 meters ahead of him nearing the turnaround of a half marathon.
The turn around was at the gate of a military facility. My teammate had run the race before knew the turnaround was supposed to be just before the gate.
The turnaround was not marked, a saw horse and cone had not been placed there as planned and the traffic arm of the gate was up. The lead runner went right on through. The guards at the gate just watched as the former lead runner disappeared down the road.
My teammate turned around at the right spot and went on to win the race. The original leader came in minutes later( quite a few minutes later) and went after the poor RD and “ winner” .. he was particularly angry with my buddy who didn’t yell at him or warn him about the turnaround.
It was an angry ending to a great racing day. Shouldnt everyone be responsible for knowing the course?

In a high school regional championship 3200, there were two guys off the front on the back stretch with 300m to go, my teammate and a competitor. My teammate was on the front and the competitor quickly pants him (i.e. yanked down his shorts almost to his knees). My teammate quickly stopped to pull them back up and lost the race. No official saw this because it happened so fast...rough way to lose.
Honestly my experiences in running have been pretty good. Maybe have just seen someone taking personal fluids but that doesn't really bother me too much. Triathlon has been a different story. Intentional contact in the water & blatant drafting on the bike.
1. A 50-year-old man drafting off a 12-year-old girl in a road race and outkicking her at the finish line. 2. A high school boy throwing punches at the back of the heads of two competitors from an opposing team during a Regional XC meet at 300 meters left to the finish. He was disqualified. 3. A high school girl runner cutting the course through a wooded area and finishing a 5K in 16:00—despite her personal best being around 25 minutes. She crossed the line over two and a half minutes ahead of the second-place finisher who was really first. It was hard to disprove initially, but her teammates ratted her out. 4. A collegiate runner purposely sabotaging a top 7 teammate in the week leading up to a major race. This included banging on his door at 2 a.m., sending random disturbing emails and texts, and even attempting to make him sick—all out of jealousy.
Some people are quite pathetic.
#1 is the most pathetic
It's the only one not breaking rules or causing someone harm.
High school invite 3200, the two kids right in front of me came off a turn neck and neck. The guy on the outside tried to pass but cut in too early and accidentally elbowed the other guy, who then shoved him into lane 3 and they both barely stayed on their feet. Then they both threw a HARD surge trying to get ahead of each other. It took me until the bell to catch back up (this happened 3 or 4 laps in) and we caught the group ahead of us in the process. We ended up kicking 4 or 5 wide down the homestretch... one of the craziest and most fun races of my life.
Not as bad as what some people have mentioned, but it was pretty crazy to see this happen right in front of me.
There was a fist fight mid 5k, 😆 the guy who won the fist fight won the race as well and the guy he knocked out finished 2nd. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen in a race.
wow. that turkey trot one is messed up. it's reasons like these that Sifan Hassan absolutely deserved to lose that race where she got into someone else's lane at the final stretch of a race. it is 100% cheating and puts other people's safety at risk.
