I think I learned more from the old Twitter, from about 2008 until Musk took over, than just about anywhere else. Since then, there’s been way too much brain drain, much of it driven by him. He essentially burned down the Library of Alexandria

Bluesky is just so much cleaner without the junk ads that fill twitter now. Maybe it will meet the same fate someday, but for now I can't see why anyone wouldn't move. I still have a few alerts I need twitter for or I would delete it, especially with it being subject to texas (meaning none that will apply to elon) laws.

Snotty libs love their threads and their blue sky safe spaces. Nobody disagrees with them or says right wing opinions.

They can't believe right wing opinions aren't censored for being obviously wrong. Everyone knows free speech doesn't count when you're wrong.

X is now the free speech paradise we had in the 90s and 00s. People are sensible and relaxed. Nobody gets triggered. The only ones who left are the ones who couldn't handle that.

people keep pretending elon is like the next tesla banging away in some lab alone inventing his whole car. he's not.

side point but the way the GOP fetishizes him implicitly for his EV while generally being drill baby drill is bizarre.

the pocket history is laughable. in the 90s barely anyone was online or could make a website. it was more of a computer science playground then for programmers. basic news websites. 00s was corporate stuff. took til the 10s to get personal blogs. and then social media is like making each of our blogs interactive with each other's.

free speech paradise of the 90s is funny.

and twitter in particular started as a fairly open minded chat thing for elites and smart people, then as it got more popular reflects the country itself -- including corporate and nasty. the right didn't like when they policed their stuff along with everyone else. so now it's becoming like right wing gossip and people.

X these days feels like a newspaper made up entirely of letters to the editor. Sure, it’s free speech—but interesting? Not so much.

There’s a reason Google’s search algorithm (PageRank) doesn’t return just any web page containing those words: quality matters.

It is much worse now. Filled with crap ads and all kinds of right wing nuts tweets show up on my feed who I don’t care to see their tweets.

why amplify such nuts?

Musk has been great at leading engineering type companies but is not good running a media company.

If it is better, that view is not shared by investors.
