But Kilian would surely run sub 26 10k and easily break 2 in the marathon because he has a 99 VO2 and does training 5k repeats in 12:30, according to him.
Not great, but not bad by any means. Keep in mind that he started this half-marathon 36 hours after running a 3:30 1500m i Brussels.
Jakob did a 27:54 in a 10k road race a couple of weeks after turning 19 (in bad conditions) He definitely has more potential in the half-marathon.
Also, he has been toying with Europe's best 10000m runners in the European XC Championships (2021 and 2022.) Absolutely destroyed runners like Kaya, Gressier, Cairess, Kimeli, Crippa, etc.
Keep in mind that Hassan started her marathon 34 hours after winning bronze in the 10k and won gold while Jakob couldn't even run faster than Gidey's half marathon debut.
More concerning than the ill-logic of this post is that almost 50 people have liked it.
In the post-race interview. He comments that the distance was way too long for him.
He should’ve went out in 28 flat, no 27:22. If it’s your first half marathon and you obviously haven’t trained specifically for it, why go out so fast?
To be honest, Jakob made a great decision to run a half marathon this year. And he ran it in the best way, at the same pace as the best half-marathoners. (as long as it lasts). It's very easy for Jakob to adjust his pace to his opportunities on the day and run some sort of result, but that's pointless to me. In fact, it was just a check on how the elite run a half marathon. All of you who think this is the end of Jakob's road running career are seriously mistaken, this is just the beginning, and I personally really liked it (the pre-race interview, the approach to the race, the post-race interview). Jakob may be stubborn, but he is far from stupid. He perceives and understands things very accurately. His love for running, his desire to prove himself, his hard work will always pay off.

I agreed. He actually toned it down quite a bit pre-race as opposed to the interview before the 3k WR. He clearly knows where he's at but he loves challenging himself by doing crazy stuff which is exactly why we like him.

Uh, he ran a 63 and that’s conclusive evidence he is not a 5/10 runner. Like just about every other runner, he does not have the range of Hassan. It really doesn’t matter what he thinks or says.

Ah yes, running a national record for the 10k, in a HM, when you haven't trained for it is definitive proof of someone not being a 10k runner.
So Jakob's debut half was 1:03:13, which is slower than...
Seth O'Donnell's win at the burnley half last week in 1:02:05, winning by 2.5 minutes and having to pass runners for at least the last 5k, with a lead bike to show the course and several hairpin turns. Was by himself the whole way.
The women's world record, Letesenbet Gidey ran 1:02:52.
Dejen Gebresselassie (the Aussie guy who made the thread about qualifying for Australia in either the 1500 or 5000 for the last olympics when he is an obvious half mara/mara guy). Dejen has run 1:02:39.
Over 5 minutes slower than the mens world record.
Was 5 minutes behind the winner of the Copenhagen half, so much for wanting to win everything.
Slower than 33 runners at the Copenhagen half, of which I only know who one of them is, Jacob Kiplimo.
If he ran 2 63:13 half maras back to back, I think he would just scrape inside the world champs mara qualifier, I think it's 2:06:30 now.
Did any of those run the half less than 48 hours after winning the DL final in the 1500 and set out in 58 min pace?
And Stewy McSweyn has ran 1:02:52, very soon after a diamond league race as well, but no one claims he is a half mara runner, Jakob couldn't even beat Mcsweyn's pb, and Brett Robinson has run 59:57, balancing his training with making lame podcasts.
In the post-race interview. He comments that the distance was way too long for him.
LOL. The trolls have all come out for this thread. Saving it for when he actually gives a full on attempt at the distance.
Snowflakes, hello sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm urging you to see that Jakob's performance today was absolutely shocking!!!!!!!!!
The comments about him were also absolutely shocking, the most shocking one was this line:
"Dude hadn't trained for the HM (all his life)"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoever said this statement simply have no idea what they are talking about!!!!! You don't need to train very specifically for the HM to just perform average in the event and run with a decent result which for Jakob equates TO A WIN AT THE MINIMUM!!!!!! Or at least 2nd, or at least 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least a podium damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why am I giving Jakob so much leniency????? Why am I saying he should come 2nd at least when he should win, then come 3rd right now when he should come at least 2nd???????????????
Boy was I disappointed for him and stayed up till 3:30 am to watch this and WTF! He looked like he was having an asthma attack. I've never watched him so unprepared for a race. He should never have done this. If he were going to run a half he should have done Valencia in December when he was in the middle of his distance running block. He embarrassed himself and I don't want to hear any more talk of 10 world records. He is a 5k track runner, one of the best in history and he should be happy with that. Now if this was just a bad race, even the greats have them, we remember joshua cheptegei crashing and burning in 2017 world champs cross country champs "" "" only to win in 2019 and break two world records on the track and we remember Letsenbet Gidey collapse and who can forget Cooper Teare . So I don't want to be too hard on Jakob, but like these other athletes especially Cheptegei, Jakob must came back bigger and stronger to erase this horrible performance!

Yeah, I think this definitively shows he’s a tweener at this point. His best distance is 3k.
As a tweener myself (best distance 600m) I can honestly say that this is an awful feeling to realize this, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I feel very bad for Jakob.
He will never win another championship 1500 and will struggle to move up. Brutal
