We changed the title of the thread to make it more factual and descriptive. It was initially entitled, "I guess Brosnan did actually do it," but the release says the former coach (Brosnan) is still disputing the allegations.
This is UCLA paying 5k to make it go away. Seems to be a total nothing burger. It’s a win for Sean.
Except that everyone now knows that he will break the rules if hired
Is that really a bad thing? Other schools are importing and paying professional runners. The whole thing is silly. NIL opened the door for everything. Recruiting violations shouldn’t even exist anymore. Plenty of schools would be happy to hire a guy who will push the envelope.

I think this is about another UCLA coach because Sean told Letsrun in an interview that he had be cleared of all wrongdoing.
Feel bad for Brosnan. But maybe he wasn’t onboarded properly and think he could do anything. I got the chance to take over a D1 program at 22 years old and never came close to a single violation in my career. He definitely messed up. He could have made some major moves if he had only followed the rules.

Really it's an onboarding problem? Do we know a single coach or even an NCAA athlete that doesn't know that you can't talk to parents of athletes at other schools and try to get them to come to your school as a coach?
He didn't follow the rules for his high school team building, what make you think he would follow them in college? Do you think a high school team just accidentally ends up with that much talent? 90% of the Newburry Park guys were recruits. He did it the same way, through contacting parents and selling why they should transfer. Best team in history or biggest cheat in history?

You must coach a 17min guy. Sorry your team sucks and you can’t coach

but he had help. A parent of one of the kids in the team has been known to do this. Did it at the youth level, Cathedral and then NP which helped Sean build his team.
Vin Lananna is the ultimate Karen of college running. His entire career has always been going after something or someone.
No, he is not. Vin is a hall of fame distance coach and Brosnan tried to poach others athletes and will never coach in college again.
Lannana is weak for turning Brosnan in, but that’s how he rolls. Y’all realize his nickname is the white devil right? And for good reason. He’s not respected/
so is the complaint from the Alabama coach when Sam McDonnell transferred to UCLA? Brosnan seems very close with his players and their families from his Newbury Park days. i know McDonnell wanted to keep running for him, I suspect when her family learned about him taking the UCLA job they reached out.
This is what Brosnan does and is known for. It's not a surprise to anyone who knows him.
He's an ambitious, driven person who wants to do well, be great, and be known. The downside of that is that he will push boundaries, cut corners, and do whatever it takes to get there. Someone compared him to Salazar earlier, and in terms of this quality to prioritize doing what it takes to win, they are spot on.
If he's hired for a pro squad, watch out. They will surely do grey area things.
I hope his books sells well because Brosnan will never coach again--too proud to go back to HS and no chance at college or pro level.
You are joking right? Jim Harbaugh committed major NCAA violations at Michigan - he currently has a 4 year show-cause penalty - and he just got hired to coach the San Diego Chargers to the tune of $80 million dollars over 5 years. If you can coach, and the administrators want to win, they will over look things like this (if true) all the time in major sports.
If I was adidas, I'd think seriously about hiring him to be their Flagstaff based coach and he can reunite with Nico.
Ask any NCAA coach if they really believe Vin Lananna stepped down at Stanford because he didn't want to coach anymore to be the AD at Oberlin. Many people think he got caught doing something. He then went to Oregon and won a ton of NCAA titles.
Yes a lot of college coaches like Brosnan, Urban Meyer, vinny do shit you and I wouldn't be comfortable with but they ultimately normally get rewarded for it. The problem with this case is he was a a low-level assistant and vinny got pissed ironically.
