You're first mistake was getting married. Bad deal for men. I have no idea how old you are or how long you have been married but this is how it's going to go, most likely. She's going to leave you at some point. The courts will side for her because that's what the courts do. She will take half your money, the house, and if there's kids then them to. She will be a single woman again! That means riding the carousel, vacationing with the girls, shopping, and maybe even a negative word or two about you to the kids. It's not all bad though, if you have money and/or a great job (unlikely) then you will have your pick of women, single and married. Have fun.
I have heard this tons of times. If this is true then how is it not also a bad deal for women?
At worst, the woman gets 50% of everything incuding your retirement funds unless you have a rock solid binding financial agreement. Here in Aus if you 'shack up' with one, after 2 yrs of common law, paying bills, she has half your property. At best, if kids are young and stay with her, it could be above 67% plus maintenance.
Women, like the OP at retirement age, where the kids are out, especially with that relationship, will walk out if she has a 'better offer', especially if you were the main breadwinner, now you are thinking about retirement, you count her spending (of your income) because you worry about the next phase. If she has a 'friend' like you have, and he is solo, has independent financial means but worried about his future, it is over , red rover.
However, you will find yourself probably with more disposable income once you spend only on yourself and the freedom to do what you want will be amazing.
