That was the best 800 race of all time, right? #6 all time, American record, and somehow no medal for Hoppel. Tough, but what can you do?
Not really honestly 2012 was still above this for sure - wire to wire world record, a race so deep that it defied the logic of the time, and as much as I hate to say it, no super shoes
I wouldn't even consider this the best 800 race run by an American. That still goes to Brazier in 2019 - American record, dominant world championship gold
Ah, the racists strike again. Hoppel ran faster against a field better than anything Brazier ever faced.
Cavorty, do you think bi carb helps at 400m or 1500m?
There is pretty extensive research showing bicarb helping 60s to 8 min tests in runners, rowers and cycling. 2-3% improvements with the standard caveat that we are talking subelites. GI distress has always been the problem. You either need to drink a ton of water or use gels.
For everyone saying Bryce will be upgraded because all the medalists are possibly juicing, are you saying Bryce is the benchmark and anyone ahead of him regardless of time is suspect? Remember Bryce was right up there with them time-wise even while running mainly on outside (longer distance, more energy) and being a medal threat to the end! Do we think Cole Hocker is juicing as well based on how he dominated the 1500m? Are we expecting Kerr to be upgraded to gold soon or in future as well? If your answer to my last question is a NO, then stop crying about petty stuff. Your crap and American athletes' crap just smell like anyone else's!
No most are saying the guy whose room and coach’s room got raided might result in this. Say what you will about Wanyonyi and Arop or Hoppel, but none were part of a doping sting operation at the Olympics.
Actually, 4 of 6 people on this thread up to this post are saying multiple medalists are juicing, and you're one of the 2 who thinks only bronze is suspect. His point still stands, but I'm partial to your take, as well.
1:41.anything wins you gold MOST years, I never thought Hoppel would be a 1:41 guy.
I remember Nick Symmonds talking about how he was astonished that he didn’t medal with his 1:42.9.uyt
I'm on
What a year for Bryce. If anyone’s got a link to the video, I’d love to rewatch the race!
....
In 20 years of posting I don't think I have ever been this OUTRAGED...1:41.67 and not even a F***NG medal (Please excuse my language). I'm not apologizing when I say NO WAY ALL 3 of the medalists are clean...the 800m has become a joke (best pharmacist) this year. I stand on that til the day I die 😳
Why do you think Hoppel is more likely to run a clean 1:41 than Arop? Marco has been better for a long time, and races the circuit regularly.

Does it work for 60meters and below? Any benefits of using sodium bicarbonate for sprints less then 60meters and the broad jump and vertical? Or does it only help with reducing lactic acid build up in the muscles?
That is the ONLY LOGICAL explanation.... especially considering at the start of the year we were discussing the drought of the men's 800. Now we have 5 sub 1:42 guys and 8 or 9 sub 1:43 guys... 😒 WTH. WR potentially could go to 3-4 guys within the next 2-3 year. Yeah RIGHT. 😳
The circumstantial evidence is everywhere. Paris athletics oozes juice from every pore.
The run up to Paris 800 oozes juice from every one of the medalists' 1:41s, and from Hoppel's 1:42 too. You don't just everyone suddenly smash through that 1:43 barrier for a special few months, not just because a big meet is coming. That's not how it works. You have to be physically able.
OK we cannot discount drugs given the history of the sport but aren't the track and carbon plated spikes behind a lot of the fast times at this year's Olympics? The Paris track was supposed to have been tuned to the carbon plated spikes and was designed to be exceptionally fast. I've heard some people say that it could be up to 1 sec per lap which could explain a lot of the fast times in the distance races.
Looking at the marathon races the athletes do look as though they are literally bouncing of the road right up to the end of the race and this is even for the athletes who have blown up. Obviously the shoes today are completely different from 10 or 20 years ago and I feel this is like tennis in the 1980s when the rackets changed from wood to carbon fibre frames and the game completely changed. I am not against advances in technology especially if as amateur or masters runners we can also benefit from the shoes and reducing the risk of injuries. But I think we should take the changes in technology into account when trying to a compare a result of today to past performances and also jumping to immediate conclusions such as so and so ran faster that X in the past thus this must be due to drugs.

Bro no buddy is questioning him doing drugs, 1:41 ?? you think he did that clean?
hes doped TO THE GILLLS. nobody cares no more, we luv it.
We aint getting to 1:39 sober, gotta up that dosage baby!
because of hormones etc etc I would guess in 20 years the women will be running a hair off all the mens times. "equality"
20.50 200m 45/46 for the 400m, 1:49/1:50 800m 3:43/3:45 1500m 13:50 5k marathon: 2: 10
