Why is it a good idea to hire people or admit people to academic programs because of the color of their skin and not their proven ability?
Please explain.
I'll explain, (you jackass). To give people a chance to prove their ability. A lot of these "DEI recruits" are coming from places where they were the best, but without adequate competition. Like your 20 minute 5k might win the local park run, but up against more formidable competition you may or may not rise to the challenge. Same idea. You moron.
Let me express the view that nearly everyone who has any common sense holds. People should be hired based on how qualified they are for the position. Not because of race gender identity and other bs like that.
Specifically in my field of engineering, theres a big push to hire women. theres a reason most engineers are men, and we don't need to give people jobs because they are more "marginalized"

Less women go into STEM. Because theyre not as good. Sorry if you are offended, but the US Math team, it is always all men. They had to make European Girls Math Olympiad just for girls. Because they can't compete with men in STEM. There are also only 20 female USAMO qualifiers per year, out of the 500 selected.

What's the reason most engineers are men?
And you probably still believe it is because the "system is rigged against women going into STEM"

Well yes. The problem is in the real world people are biased against gender, race, and other attributes. Even if subconsciously. That guy that is 6’4 is getting the promotion even if you out performed him just because he is tall. There are no easy answers in the real world, but pretending biases don’t exist is a nonstarter.
Calling someone a DEI hire is the same as calling someone a legacy admission to USC and any Ivy League. You’re telling them they aren’t good enough and they only got the offer because of diversity in the case of DEI and their parent’s money in the case of legacy admissions. You’re essentially saying, “you don’t belong here.”
Tried to sneak USC in there with the Ivy League and thought no one would notice huh?
What's wrong with the University of South Carolina?

Don’t people joke here about the brojos being bought a spot?
So, ultimately, it's still hiring somebody because of their race.
And we can't say there's another word for that.
You people really believe your own bs.
Either you didn't understand what I wrote, or you believe that a white man will always be the most qualified candidate. If it's the latter, making you not racist is outside the scope of what I can reasonably achieve on the letsrun boards
I understood perfectly.
The best candidate is not always a white man.
But let us choose the best candidate, no matter what he or she may look like, and not have what they look like play into it AT ALL.
If the choice is based on what the candidate looks like, then that is a racist or sexist practice, even if the selected person is a member of a minority or marginalized group.
How do those in favor of this not see this practice for what it is? Because those who benefit from it are not white men makes it ok?

This is the most ridiculous argument I've ever heard, and you're calling ME a jackass.

can someone explain to me how "DEI hire" fits when (a) you ran for the president job on your own (b) you are vice president of the whole country (c) you were a city DA and a state AG and (d) importantly, you are getting the gig because the default white dude is senile.
also, being a howard graduate is the opposite of DEI. a black person is not getting into howard on affirmative action. people are stupid.
we all know she wouldve never gotten in if she was asian or white.
