this is just a wild story when you look at the precedent it's setting: the MIL (the shooter) was terminally ill, so for her to shoot herself is....well, she was going to suffer and die anyways. On her "way out," she made sure her son (hello, helicopter parent?) would receive full custody and be out of the custody conflict with bio mom. In these situations, the son should *not* get full custody, IMO. Even if he didn't ask her to do it!! Going to the father shouldn't be the default if the mother was murdered, but this works in reality (google "Dan Markel murder trial" his in-laws hired a hit man to shot him over child custody, 2 million life insurance police, $$$$)
I called this woman the MIL, but I don't think her son and the murder victim were ever married. Just BF/GF.
REGARDLESS, this is the SECOND TIME this scenario has happened recently. Just "off" the mother and your son can have full custody? The problem is...the child goes to the one remaining parent, so this strategy works.
More recently than Merkel... there was another case in FL, where a women had her ex-husband shot in the street (tire left in the road to get him out of the car) so she would have full custody of their kids. The plot unraveled after a year, she and her boyfriend are in jail, and her parents (who funded the whole thing) have custody of the kids. Disgusting.

You'd think to blame the cost of living, but both parties were wealthy in these two homicides, the Markel case and the Jared Bridegan case. And the poor Markel family has been waiting for 10 years to have justice! The MIL is just now going to trail when the shooting happened in 2014. this is due to their wealth and political connections, I believe.

Amazing how slowly the wheels of justice turn. We put a man on the moon 55 years ago, in less time than it took to get Markel's MIL into criminal court. They caught the two morons who did the shooting pretty quickly (drove their own car up the Turnpike from Miami, with their own cellphones)... but they had to roll on Adelson's (brother in law) slam-piece, who then eventually rolled on Adelson, which finally let them trace the money to the MIL. Convoluted... but 10 years is ridiculous. Shameful.
