You’re right, it’s not super hot in Paris this week or next.
The concern is that there were extreme heat waves in 2019, 2022, and 2023. Paris housing does not always have A/C and apparently its old architecture with zinc roofs absorbs heat. Eugene has moderate averages the end of June for the Trials, but remember when there was a 110*F heatwave in 2021? And the Tokyo Olympics were also in a heatwave. So the fears are about the possibility of another heatwave, not the probability.
Beyond the fears of a heatwave, athletes simply expect to control their food intake and their sleep, which includes overnight temperature. If we were athletes at the Paris Games we’d want assurance we could control our sleeping temperature for the month of Olympic competition.
But I assume most medal contenders will not be staying at the athlete’s village with all its distractions.
We were in France for 3 weeks last summer from the end of July through mid August. It was pretty warm and a bit noisy sleeping with the windows open in Paris.
