He was asked what some of his role models were and who he used to look up to as a young gun. He listed off a few people, but notably left out Alberto. Look, I know AS is suspect and factually did some bad stuff... But I think its ridiculous he has to be shunned from even being mentioned or acknowledged as having achieved a lot in the sport. I think its perfectly fine Rupp can admit that his coach from his youth was a huge role model for him and was someone he looked up to. No one is completely without faults, we can acknowledge people's angels and demons without being morally corrupt.
This is 100% correct. Alberto was a huge factor in Galen’s success as a runner.
huge role model. The two of them always stayed late after practice to run extra intervals.
I’m guessing this is sarcasm but…yes, Alberto clearly was a huge factor in Galen’s success as a runner. As most coaches are in the careers of athletes. Undoubtedly he was a mentor figure for Rupp and had a huge impact on him.

I interpreted this more as he was viewing the question like who was relevant to look up to and actively competing while he was growing up and going through the high school ranks. Alberto and any other runners of that era would not be factored in then.
What greatness?? I MUCH prefer the current field of Americans who you know actually RACE! None of this sit and kick crap that dominated track in the US for nearly two decades. The US Olympic Trials that just ended was by the best US based track and field meet in history. Awesome racing, front running (IMAGINE That!!), and strong kicks and close finishes, records AND PRs!!! I honestly thought I'd never see the day. The Mo Farah and Rupp days sucked so bad. I hated it. Farah sucks btw.

Sit and kick? Like Gebreselassie did his entire track career?
One time in high school after he'd finished running the 3,000 they didn't have a runner for the 4x4 he volunteered they were going to put him in there as second leg the rest of the teammates told coach to run Galen as anchor so he'd get a couple more minutes rest he took the baton 10 meter down and ran down a state qualifier in the 400 47.9 or something split insane race

No offense but there is no way Galen ran a 47.9 split. Absolutely no way. If Galen could run a 47.9 split then he would have won multiple Gold medals, and likely run 3:29 or so.
Rupp has the least interesting voice tone and interview demeanor of any major distance runner in recent US history. His face looks like a caricature of a goon or nerd. I suspect he was doping wildly which allowed him to 'sprint' rather than putz around like the geek he truly resembles.

right,
i normally give the benefit of the doubt, but not on this one.
a 47.9 running split is more or less 49 flat out of the blocks, and then you have hand time which can be off by 0.3 every day of the week. and in high school? that means the guy in his prime could run 47 high out of the blocks,
so you are talking about 144 800 guy at least. when you are an aerobic beast. rupp ran 149 one off more or less indoor, while that's surely not close to max, there is zero indication of 144 speed.
what i do believe is the running start 49 400m after a workout, near peak. which are 50x out of the blocks.
at the end of the day, rupp probably a bit more speed than advertised, but no 47x guy.
