Any actress or model would envy the range of facial expressions in 32 minutes showing her curiosity, enjoyment, frustration confusion, determination and joy. She turned a usually boring grind of an event into a master class of entertainment and in-the-moment immersion.

1) One dictionary definition of “girl” is “a young or relatively young woman.” Does this not describe Valby?
2) OK, then why are you so salty about Valby’s performance?
3) Not sure why the ad hominem about my own running ability is necessary, but I did pay attention to the race.
Please try to get over whatever it is that you have against Valby. You’ll be a healthier and happier person.

1) She is probably my favorite college runner, if I have one. That does not mean that she should be looking around and mugging at fans during a championship race. No matter how much I root for her, I recognize that people should pay attention to their race.
2) The dictionary definition of "girl" is irrelevant. They are women. That's why we call high school races the "Girls' 1600" and so forth, and she just won the "Women's 10,000 Meters." Calling her a "girl" is demeaning.
3) My comment about your running ability is a result of you taking a position that no high level racer would take. All people who compete in championship races expect their fellow competitors to pay attention so they can avoid tripping.
I like Parker Valby very much, and I am perfectly happy and healthy. But thanks for the advice.
I think you misunderstood Valby's antics in that race. She was reacting at one spot on the track and that was where her coach was yelling instructions. Without making any judgements about her behavior, I can state she was NOT mugging for the fans. She was interacting with her coach. That is a big difference. Only issue I have with your post.

That's very possibly true.
Regardless, you don't need to make eye contact with your coach, and you certainly don't need to gesticulate. It's not a conversation.
At 12:22 she nearly took out the lead pack.
Again, I like her as an athlete and wish nothing but the best for her, but that crap can't happen.
She is a pretty girl, but what does that have to do with how good runner she is? She is a damn good runner. I'm starting to think that she is popular and many like her just because her look.
