Curious as to why he would leave his coach JR in an Olympic year. Maybe one of the biggest mistakes that has been seen in AA. 1:43.99 and disappears.
I hope he has a good support crew around him. He may need help.
Weather looks ok

Bit windy atm - 15mph roughly onto the home straight so don't know if we'll see anything crazy time wise
Looked up AUS population cause there's women with 4:26 PBs running with 3:57 Jessica Hull. OK, they only have 26 million people.
4:01 for Jess Hull impressive
Tactical stewey surprise start
Myers only 5th? Go for World Juniors?
Spencer, Hoare, Hunt, Stevie, Myers, Antsey
Holy moly. Terrible tactics from Stewy. He didn't take it out fast from the gun and let the kickers into it. No idea why he didn't just put the foot down for a 3:32. Was always going to lose.
Hoare got completely boxed in too.

Hoare
Hunt

Got tripped a few times, including with 200 to go.
Stewey was done for the second it slowed at 400m. He's not fit enough to drag it out to a 3:31-32 pace, and so was always going to get rolled by the speed guys.
Spencer for the win! McSweyn with his usual start. Hoare looked good but underdone maybe? Myers ran well I think but pressure racing is obviously different than Continental meets. Fine racing from all.
That's a relief Ollie came in 2nd, nail biter at the end. Ran wide the whole time and didn't look great at the end but did the job, I think, to keep his name at the top for Oly selection.

Easy win for Cam in heat 1, 3:38/39 for Stewey in heat 2, 3:38/39 for Ollie/Jack in heat 3. Will be interesting to see how the final goes. I expect Stewey to go to the front and push the pace, but that may suit Cam. Jack looked dangerous (eased up at the end of his heat), and Ollie didn't show any real rust. Spencer looked good and eased up early when he realised he had the Q in the bag, and Callum Davies a dark horse that could mix it up in the final as well.
I think Cam is my pick to win, and then it will be down to who is close and can kick the hardest between Adam Spencer, Jack Antsey, Ollie and Stewey. I could see a situation in which Stewey doesn't make the podium if the other guys are close with 100m to go.
Got the order wrong, but as alluded to - Stewey fails to get on the podium. Has yet to win a 1500m National Championship
Stewy will still go to Paris for the 1500 I reckon.
Spencer/Hoare/Stewy for the 1500 team.
I picked Spencer for the win in a earlier post. He looked good in his heat. Composed with fine positioning. Myers got boxed in a got roughed up a bit but there were lots of positives. I don't think McSweyn can go 3:29 plus anymore so it will be interesting to see his next move (5k?). Hoare looked rusty but I think he's got a bit in the tank.

Great race. Myers tripped up a bunch and will learn from that. Ollie was boxed in on the back straight and will be kicking himself he didn't get out earlier because Stewy was always going to get swarmed.
I'm a big Stewy fan but he just can't win championships like this--- MTC strength-based training not working for him anymore?
Selection is going to be hard. Ollie can run fast and kick, so a medal chance. Spencer is auto.
Jessie Hunt could make a case if he gets his PB down to say 3.31/2?
I think Stewy needs to move up to the 5km and focus on that.

Per AA Policy re: Phase 1 nominations:
"Athlete must have finished in the top two (2) Australian places at the 2024 Australian Track
and Field Championships in their event but are not compelled to nominate both
first and second placegetters. For the avoidance of doubt, international athletes
competing at the 2024 Australian Track and Field Championships will not be
considered for the purposes of ranking athletes in each event under this clause"
So there are no autos anymore - you just may be considered.
