Elizabeth Leachman: 5k National Record Attempt

Hard to know for sure as 1st place Marta Alemayo doesn't have much for results to analyze. However, 2nd Asayech Ayichew and 5th Diana Cherotich have a 15:06 5k PR. There is some close to 15 flat or under talent in the world U20 field.

I am amused by the 3 dislikes of my posting of the race video. I guess some would prefer I not post videos that I notice show up on Youtube?

I think some folks dislike some of our posts on purpose. Simply because they know we’ll notice.

Either that, or Leachman demolished their kid in a meet somewhere/sometime, and they just simply can't let it go.

She broke Natalie cooks record!

She's great, but not the fastest girl in history. Most HS girls do not run a track 5,000. It's not a typical high school event.

Cook did it with pacers. Leachman did it solo.

Do you know how old Cook was when she set that record? Her age at the time was a point that Tuohy-ites liked to bring up to discount it. They said, rightly or wrongly, that Cook was an older Senior, and could have been the age of a typical college freshman.

Let it go. Leachman is the fastest girl in history and has 2 years left. She will go pro senior year.

Zero chance she is going pro in high school. She is much more interested in being on a college team than she is in going pro.

More than just doing it solo, Leachman decided before the race to NOT go for the national record, and she was taking it relatively easy for the first 3200. It was only in the last few laps that she changed her mind, and decided to go for the national record after all. She could have run faster than 15:25 if this had been a national record attempt from the beginning of the race.

Leachman wouldn't have been anywhere close to winning the world u20 xc championship.

16th place finisher Allie Zealand ran 21:08, and she lost by a whopping 1:40 to winner Marta Alemayo who ran 19:28.

Leachman only beat Allie Zealand by 14 seconds at Foot Locker.

Leachman is very good compared to the American girls, but she had absolutely no shot at winning against the top Africans.

10th place at World u20 was 20:04, which beat Allie Zealand by 1:04. So it would have been very difficult for Leachman to have even gotten 10th place.

you say this every time! she was not taking it easy! did you see watch the video where after she finished, she collapsed on the infield. She definitely ran all-out. She probably ran faster because she didn't go out too fast. Her performance was super impressive, no need for embellishment.
