p.s. If you have a personal axe to grind I think it's worth noting it in your commentary. Not that I think badmouthing someone on a message board is productive anyway.
How did Lananna get Brosnan fired? Sorry if I wasn't always paying attention.
The story from the Brosnan fan club goes; apparently Lananna wasn't happy about Brosnan's poaching of his athlete, so he complained. Now, Brosnan did absolutely nothing wrong and there were no other issues at all with Brosnan as a coach, but the complaint from some other school that was proven to be false was enough for the UCLA administration to fire the coach they hired just a year before.
Makes sense, right?
UCLA doesn’t care about their cross country team. The administration only cares about basketball and football. They just don’t want any headaches out of XC.
Vin filing a complaint is enough for them to not renew Brosnan’s contract.
Vin Lananna is not trustworthy. He will use you in order to get something he wants. Why is anyone surprised by this. I can’t name another college coach that has anything good to say about him .
Vin Lananna was a good coach back in the 90’s. He did some shady stuff in NCAA and had some major violations that caused him to get removed from Stanford. Sometimes getting fired is a good thing and you get better job ( example: Robert Gary , Jason Vigilante). Lananna is old and past his coaching prime. He has a huge ego and the coaches that have been around a long time can’t stand the man. He got removed from the USATF for shady deals and more shady deals caused him to get the kick in the as@ from Oregon. He took a job coaching again at UVA. The man hasn’t coached in years and is resorting back to his old tactics. Wow this guy sounds like a great man to run for!
We all good? Now move on because I converted everything!

How many college coaches do you know? 2?
I can't name another college coach as successful as him....
There has been so damn much Vin hate on the board the last few months. I can’t remember there ever being any hate for the guy (most people seemed to agree he was just a cut throat coach who won), and this goes back to his Stanford days.
Possible to check the IPs? I have a feeling it’s one or a couple posters going nuts and making it look like more than it is.
Yet another reason why the way this forum works is dumb. The literal only place I know on the internet that allows non registered folks to post. Makes no sense.
Then the got removed from USTF for conflict on interest concerns over the federal prob of how the 2021 IAAF world championships were awarded to Eugene. Then booted from Oregon.
Then that was him getting thrown under the bus, cause Oregon itself was all-in on that debacle. Board of trustees unanimous. Soon-to-be-disgraced governor on board, disgraceful next governor on board, fine citizens of Oregon and visitors taxed for years on end. Send them all to the east coast, or Portland at least.
Umm, I was just in Oregon and there is still no sales tax

What the difference if you’re registered ? you can register any name at any time under any email address. It’s the same as being anonymous. Just let it go. By you posting it keeps the thread alive.
My experience with him was that he was deceptive, like a used car salesman. And if things didn't go the way he wanted, he was less than classy in response...
Agreed. I also love what he said about hosting the national cross country championships:
“And when I arrived at Virginia, one of the big goals I had was to host something really impactful and something the community can be involved with.”
“I’ll go out on a limb. This will be well over 45 NCAA DI championships I’ve been part of, and I would say that I think with UVa and Panorama Farms, we have the goal of making this the very best one. The best experience for the student-athletes, the coaches, the spectators, the media and I think that our course has been devised to do that. And so not only do I expect it to be similar, I expect it to set the bar for future NCAA championships.”
He clearly loves the sport and has done a lot for it. I wonder what the people badmouthing him are doing for the sport.
honestly I’m not into all the oregon coaching history so I only have heard his name. The only thing I know about him is that he was blocking teams from his xc meet this season, then having his assistant cold-call coaches he snubbed after he realized how many teams cancelled. The guy thinks every university can just change their travel plans a week before just because he called.. is he really so out of touch that he doesn’t know how budgets and race schedules work? Maybe someone else takes care of that stuff for him?

The bulk of the people badmouthing him is really just one person who's all butt hurt he got fired for poaching one of Vin's athletes along with just acting like the narcissistic pain he is.
That person thinks he revolutionizing the sport, but he's really just trying to be relevant through self promotion like "the rise".
I'm sure Lannana has stepped on a lot of toes and hurt some feelings over all these years of coaching in the ncaa but no one can deny his accomplishments over all this time. Weak men take offense to people like him in the sport and business world but men like Vin are the ones that win and succeed in life. He won't win nationals this year no doubt but he does have shot at top ten on both the men and women's side which is no small feat while hosting nationals no less. Pretty impressive for a guy in his seventies at a new gig. Vin has done much for our sport and I definitely respect the man. He has put out a big wake behind him over the years and I'm sure some got washed aside when he came through. Too bad some think he's "mean" and "angry" but he gets things done, even in his seventies. He is one of the few legends still coaching today but evidently he hurts a few "feelings" here and there. Par for the course.

He’s a grand master used car salesmen. He’s had parents of recruits kick him out of the their house on a home visit. It just goes back to his dishonesty
Vin has been around a long time and has had team coaching success. Most of this was from his days in the 90’s, but what do we expect, he is in his 70’s. At Oregon he was not well at points and the Powell’s did most all the coaching. I don’t think anyone argues he was a good coach back in the day. Most would agree he’s kind of outdated and not as effective today with coaching. He has a shady past and will do anything to make himself look good. Even at the expense of others.

This is exactly how Vin Lananna operates. Trever is now getting sucked in to Vin’s dirty deeds.
Back in the day Shannon Rowbury (a San Francisco girl) was interested in Stanford. When she met Lananna, he put his hand out with his championship ring - not to shake hands, but in the way that a king would have a peasent kiss his hand. Rowbury was so shocked and put off by this self-righteous gesture that she immediately crossed Stanford off her list of schools. She ended up an NCAA national champion across the county at Duke. Lananna is a complete jerk. No doubt about it.
Vin Lananna is a cheat. He abused the grant-in-aid system at Stanford and got 35 guys out for cross country on some form of financial assistance at Stanford. His wife worked her magic in the grant/admissions office at Stanford and guys were getting Farmer's Aid grants and all that. He ended up getting major NCAA violations that are all documented. This would be the reason he had to leave Stanford. Vin is perfect fit at an unethical program. Vin was right back to his unethical self at Oregon and USATF and it caught up to him once again.
