I was trying to find some reporting in his training partners, but instead I started reading this gem about his drug-aided confidence.

"Coming into 2021, Ekiru owned a marathon PB of 2:04:46 — a quick time, but not fast enough to rank him in the top 10 all-time among Kenyans, let alone in the world. Then came the Milano Marathon, where he smashed his PB and became the sixth man to break 2:03 in the marathon. His 2:02:57 result places him in a tie for fifth-fastest ever with compatriot Dennis Kimetto."

One of the very few higher profile athletes getting caught. No way the first to collude with medical personnel. Kenyan drug positive numbers rivaling Russia. No chance of Olympic or World Athletics ban. "Athletics Kenya aren't colliding with their athletes...totally different to Russia.' Sure sure. Blissful ignorance/turning a blind eye from athletics authorities over there is the same as collusion. Well done to AIU for being the only impartial ones over there showing the world what's really happening behind the scenes.

Wow, never heard of the name of this drug in my life. And Pethidine too? What's that? Renato said it should be mostly EPO but now that's debunked and there could be drugs outside EPO that are very advantageous. I would question Kipchoge even stronger now. Is he taking something similar and have better cover up techniques?

Good old steroids, with decades of tradition. Lance Armstrong also used corticosteroids (and tested positive for them in the late 90s), among other drugs. Plus pethidine against the pain, so you can keep pushing beyond mile 22. If you take two PEDs - why stop there? Maybe a journalist can get him to talk about what he took, why/how/when etc., but I doubt it. No incentives.

You are technically incorrect - they worst kind of being incorrect. WADA officially defines doping in Article 1 of their code as follows:

Doping is defined as the occurrence of one or more of the anti-doping rule violations set forth in Article 2.1 through Article 2.11 of the Code.

And he was banned for

2.4 Whereabouts Failures by an Athlete

and

I guess it’s semantics. I consider being caught doping either being caught with banned substances or a clear-cut ABP case. Whereabouts violations and lying about them is unprofessional and suspicious but I can’t say with certainty if an athlete dinged on that is doping. No doubt Kipsang engaged in deceitful conduct as they say.

As for “at least 3,” there’re about 12 names and a fair number of them have run those times in the last couple months. Wikipediang “every single” one isn’t some exhaustive process.

Here is my one thought on this narrative path:

Do we really believe that there aren't people out there that recognized the whole "super shoe" pandemonium and how they could use this to perfectly deflect away from anything else they might be doing?

Put it this way - IF you wanted to cheat in the sport of athletics, be it on the roads or on the track, there has been no better time in the modern history of the sport (I'm discounting the 70's and 80's for obvious reasons) to do it. Every insane performance is instantly chalked up to supershoes/spikes - we have people out there losing their minds and sleep because of "responder theory" and "carbon fiber springs".

New product has made a difference - I don't think anyone would say it hasn't. But the revolution in this product happened 5 years ago - the mild evolution since (losing 40g off a shoe is not a huge deal okay) is just not mapping onto the jumps in performance we have seen in the last 12 months. However the mental gymnastics people are doing to explain it is kind of head-scratching when even though the answer might not be what they want to hear or believe, could be right in front of their eyes.
