Did Des register in the Elites or did she register in the Hobby Jogger 40-49 age group race?
And this matters to you because...?
That's the problem with American marathoning where we now celebrate niche age group records and finisher medals for American "elites" for far down the results sheet placings like they matter at all. Do you think the Kenyans and Ethiopians ever at all think or care about that kind of stuff as they run miles ahead at the front and actually win?
These days 2:2x will barely put you in the top 50. Can’t compete with the true talents and the drug fueled 2:11’s.
I could not say it better. a gradual drop is normal. The reent times are significant drops in times in a very short period. I know the new shoes play a role, but c'mon
Oh, Ok, so she's either a hobby jogger, or running with Hassan, whom no one else could run with, either. Nothing in between? Did you even look at the women's results? Next woman an entire min. away, the rest even further?
And why is there a person intent on diminishing her success on this page? Were you an ex-boyfriend or something, or do you just get off on trying to discourage people? Why would anyone listen to that?
Much better than I expected. I would have thought with a 2:25 she still might be a force at the Trials. Now I'm putting her on my hypothetical US team.

Adderall is a powerful force.
She's not on adderall, as the recent Runner's World article made clear.
Have you never raced a marathon? Everything has to go right for a fast time. Not sure what you're "disappointed" in - - - almost all marathoners have a bad race. Or two. Or three. Except a few Kenyans at the top, and between the shoes and the drug labs, who knows what's really fueling their performances. Credit to Des for snagging an age group record, and I'm guessing that NO BODY here blowing shade at her has run faster than she has. NO ONE. Prove me wrong.
There were plenty of haters here on LRC. But now they're back in their hidy-holes.
There's no reason to hate (and by "hate" what you really mean is "suspect that maybe she isn't as good anymore") when you perform. It was perfectly reasonable to doubt her based on recent performances and training choices. This was a decent performance and people will react to it appropriately - most likely she's put herself back on the radar of those "haters".
Exceptional job at diminishing the performances of these women. Couldn't have done it better if you tried to be more of a jerk. Maybe you should send them a note before the race next time and they will perform better?
This was unexpected, Molly Seidel actually set a new PB at the Chicago Marathon 2023 with 8th place at 2:23:07 after we all thought she was washed up and past her best before date with her antics and slow performances at shorter races this year.
In other news, I'm extremely disappointed at Emily Sisson with only a 2:22:09 seeing how she holds the American marathon record and got a lot slower when this was perfect weather. Same goes for Emma Bates and Des Linden, I'm disappointed in both of them for running so much slower than they've done in the past when the Kenyans and Ethiopians are running faster than ever. As usual, the American women are at the bottom of the results as a pack.
Women’s Elite
1. Sifan Hassan (NED) -- 2:13:44 CR
2. Ruth Chepngetich (KEN) -- 2:15:37
3. Megertu Alemu (ETH) -- 2:17:09
4. Joyciline Jepkosgei (KEN) -- 2:17:23
5. Tadu Teshome Nare (ETH) -- 2:20:04
6. Genzebe Dibaba (ETH) -- 2:21:47
7. Emily Sisson (USA) -- 2:22:09
8. Molly Seidel (USA) -- 2:23:07
9. Rose Harvey (GBR) -- 2:23:21
10. Sara Vaughn (USA) -- 2:23:24
13. Emma Bates (USA) -- 2:25:04
17. Des Linden (USA) -- 2:27:35
-Des is 40. If you're 'disappointed' in her for running 2:27, you're an imbecile.
-The LR basement-dwelling misogynist class (which is what, about half the active posters here?) thought (or *hoped*) Molly was washed up; *reasonable* people didn't think so --and sure as hell weren't hoping for it.
-It's probably reasonable to be a little disappointed with Emma's race, but she'll be back.
-It might be reasonable to be a little disappointed with Emily's race, too, but she's been great the last couple years, and picking her out to beat up on is pretty stupid. And in case you hadn't noticed, the US women have been a hell of a lot better than the US men for a while now, and that'll very likely still be true for a while going forward.

deals in facts only not opinion sorry deal with it.
I sat next to her on the plane into Chicago. She had some weird ideas about training mileage. I tried to convince her she needed to increase her miles, but she thought I was strange.
If I tell you this was clever, can you finally consider your “work” on these boards done then go slink back under whatever rock you emerged from?

I take pride in my work and the results show. They would do well to read this thread before the Olympic Trials to increase their level of professionalism.
And I forgot to add for Emma that she has got to start drinking Gatorade or an electrolyte drink during the marathon instead of just gels. Is it any wonder she underperformed due to dehydration? Even a 1% loss of body water causes an enormous drop in performance.
