We like to have 1 thread per topic so we merged two threads together and kept the title of this thread. The other thread was entitled, "Assefa performance."
I really worry that in the near future, no one will be able to break a World Record without being suspected of Drugs, I hope I am wrong and most will see new World Records as solely because of Hard Work, Consistency and Dedication in Training, proper amount of sleep and a fairly Healthy Diet
My friend, this forum does not support balanced views like that. Too many low ability (probably young) runners embittered by lack of talent, lack of presence elsewhere, and wholly lacking an awareness of their own "shadow", so they project onto others. Then there are others who are just plain lonely or marginalised, who get some of their needs met by waffling on to whoever will respond. But thanks for being a voice of reason.
How about CERA? Hint: Danilo Diluca, Riccardo Ricco, Stephann Schumacher, Bernhard Kohl. All came out of nowhere in similar fashion, all had one thing in common: CERA
There needs to be a handicapping system in place for all marathon majors. It'll be a hundred years before a non-African woman will even sniff 2:11. That doesn't help the popularity of the sport in Western nations. Even out the field. Get rid of pace makers.
What is the golf handicap index? Heck, what is a good golf handicap? In this video we simply explain for beginners, and even advanced golfers, how to get you...
Athletics is the biggest sport in Ethiopia and for Ethiopians it is a source of pride. No athelt would dare bring damage to our reputation as there is a huge price to pay from the public.
The federation is corrupt on money matters and selection but not to drugs level.
You think that no Ethiopian runner takes drugs? Ha ha ha ha. You are just as delusional about Ethiopian athletes as that El Keniano guy is about Kenyan athletes.

In the near future? It’s already that way. Probably has been for 40 years or more to anyone who was paying attention. The fact is drugs work and the difference in talent among the best in any sport is razor thin. Everything you listed is still required but the likelihood of a “clean” athlete beating someone on PEDs is highly unlikely.
+1
I bet there hasn't been a clean world record since the 70s, so about 44 years, give or take.
The Africans turn up massively doped, dominate the top 10, go home with their new cars and cash to buy houses..Get popped a year or two later (who cares? They got the car and house and never have to give it back). They’re still massively better off than if they hadn’t doped enormously since being teenagers.
There are always going to be some very poor people who think it's worth cheating for a few years in order to buy a house for their family that they would otherwise never be able to afford.
So the only way to stop that from happening is by better drug testing. But so far the cheaters seem to be way ahead of the drug testers. Is there any way for the drug testers to catch up?
It's a complete joke. You knew something was up as soon as Gidey started her charge through the record book on the roads. 1:02:xx in the half marathon. 2:11 was a mere formality at that point. Ethiopian women have been training hard for a long time with the help of a pro-doping head of the world's largest runner management program and Healing Hans and other European doctors. Now they are shattering records set with super shoes already. History and sense tell us that this is through doping on a large scale because there are so many Ethiopian (and a few Kenyan) women just destroying old standards. 14 flat. 29 flat. There have been over 150 Kenyans caught doping in recent years and they are being destroyed by the Ethiopians where doping controls seem entirely lax. Think about it.
Kenya has been cleaned up a little (not enough) in recent years, but Ethiopia remains a free for all. This will continue. Some other Ethiopian woman you've never heard of will run 2:10 next year.
The scary thing is,chinese women could make a comeback, and run as fast as they did in the 90's,and nobody would notice !
Drugs, drugs and more drugs. A beginner, running only her third marathon, is now faster than the great Abebe Bikila, when he set a world record at Tokyo in '64, winning by 3 minutes.
Wow, you make a great point. That is a shocking reality check.
That's an interesting comparison.
What was the men's world record in the mile back in 1964? Something like 3:55? Faith Kipyegon just ran 4:07 which is nowhere close to 3:55.
Interesting how the women have improved much more in the marathon compared to men vs the shorter distances. It can't just be drugs. Maybe the super shoes worn for road racing help a lot more than the super spikes on the track?
No, it's because a woman ran 2.11x she is on drugs.
Why is it not possible for a woman to run 2.11.xx without drugs? Please respond with facts, thank you.
You needed to have followed the sport. In my youth the greatest male marathon runner was another Ethiopian, Abebe Bikila. He trained full-time and destroyed the competition while setting a world record when he won the Tokyo Olympics marathon (repeating his wr victory from Rome 4 years earlier). She is a novice, converting from the 800m. She is now faster than his world record - a MAN'S world record - on only her third effort at the distance. If you understand the differences between the best male and female athletes - which cannot be bridged by talent, training, technique (or shoes) - what she has done is not possible. Unless doped beyond belief.

Average 5:02 pace or 31:16 10k/15:38 5k. To put that in context, that's about 13 seconds slower than the high school girls record holder. 13 seconds slower than the boys' record would be 13:47, on pace for about a 1:56:30 marathon.

The men's world record in '64 for the mile was 3:54. 1:44 for the 800. The women's marathon record is now faster than the men's marathon record of that era. That is a massive and exponential increase in female endurance. It can only be achieved by drugs - training and shoes alone won't do it.
A 'highly talented' East African athlete might possibly pull of a 1min slower HM for a halfway split in a marathon race. I guess it's all about conditioning. For instance this lady Assefa has a HM pb of 68:34 but she runs 66:20 for a halfway split. Of course it could be argued she probably can do a 64 for a HM all out race. I think it's possible although it may be pushing the limit a little. Eliud kipchoge's HM PB is no faster than 59 flat but he can go through halfway in around 60-60:30. It's all about aerobic resistance to fatigue I guess
