Paleo/carnivore people are insufferable reductionists. Human ancestors ate a very, very wide range of things depending on their locale. They ate what they needed to survive. Some did eat meat heavy diet, especially in colder climates where tubers, roots, and legumes were less available. Some ate very plant-based. Almost no one ate anything close to this modern carnivore trend.

My uncle went all into paleo for a bit and was signing its praises to me over dinner. Me, being a bratty teen, HAD to try to tell him why it was dumb. He had lost 20lbs, so to him, it clearly worked. I tried to point out that he was eating a dinner of grilled salmon, broccoli, a baked potato, and water — a pretty balanced meal. Normally he might eat a burger and fries and a beer or a soda. All these super restrictive diets can be healthy in that they reduce the amount of highly caloric processed foods, which is hard to argue is a bad thing. But you're not seeing the forest through the trees if you think it's healthier because it's "what our ancestors ate."

Vegetable poison. Carbs cancer. Me mad cow bad, only eat beef all day, but allegedly have a six pack nearing 70, so I can die in peace (but absolutely not peas).

Still cheaper than buying prepared and packaged by someone at the grocery store.

Our physical canines are actually much smaller than.those of male baboons, chimps and.gorillas. However, our analog canines, the spear well-handled, is by far the largest in the animal world. Technology allows us to keep a safer distance from the act of killing.

The result of 3 million years of obligate carnivory, compared to apes, is a 40% decrease in gut size (caecum becomes the vestigial appendix) and a roughly equivalent increase in bran size. There are not enough hours in the day for a chimp to support an equivalent brain, eating instead of.sleeping.

The modern dietary recommendations are part of the greatest grift in history, and the miserable state of the populace is the result. By consulting evolution and physiology, we can enact the anti-grift, with appropriate use of meat, eggs, fish, dairy, fruit and selected produce. If you want average results, just stay within the average guidelines, if you dont mind being sarcopenic, metabolically dysfunctional and moderately to grossly overweight by my age.

I absolutely agree with "appropriate use of meat, eggs, fish, dairy, fruit and selected produce" but idea that humans are (or that human ancestors were) obligate carnivores is ridiculous. Apes in general show distinct omnivorous physiology. Our GI systems are midway between carnivores (large highly acidic stomachs that take up most of the abdominal cavity, short small intestinal tract 3-6x body length, short large intestinal tract) and herbivores (small stomach or stomachs, extended small intestines 10x body length, extended and widened large intestines). Our intestines are well-suited to hosting bacteria that digest plant matter. We have both shearing and grinding teeth. And our metabolisms can make use of plant compounds that are useless or dangerous to real obligate carnivores

People your age (old?) are sarcopenic, metabolically dysfunctional, and overweight because a) they eat processed sugar, b) they spend most of their lives sedentary, and c) human bodies are not optimized for life past 45-50yo

They also didn't brush their teeth, go to a dentist, use deodorant, or live past age 40.

Perfect payback: the credit card company charges a fee to the vendor for the transaction, so in effect, they don't get full usage of the compensation (lose about a couple of percent in fees to the bank) just as you don't get full usage of the whole piece of broccoli.

First of all, get a real education beyond superficially scraping the internet for tidbits you don't understand. Average life expectancy doesn't mean people got to 35 and then dropped dead of old age or illness. Mostly it means high infanty mortality and living in a dangerous world.

Second, did you notice it went down anyhow after they started farming plants? From 35 to 26.

Yes, that is an amazing way to do it. So essentially the banks profit from a stalk of broccoli, the vendor gets ripped off, and you throw the stalk in the garbage. Amazing results all round! I really hope you are being sarcastic (too early to tell). If anyone is choosing to use a credit card over a stalk of broccoli I am disturbed. I suppose you could use the rewards points to buy... more broccoli ;)

Bubski, just play the field. Play the cards you've been given, don't sweat it, and move on to something more fulfilling.

That said, use the credit card, earn your points, and peel the stalk of the tough, stringy skin and consume the inner portion. Here, I looked it up for you: "...take off the outer ‘rind’ as this can be a bit stringy, then slice the stalk thinly and add it to my dishes just like that."

Plenty of stuff that gets thrown away when trimming vegetables can be consumed safely and nutritiously with a little thought and effort. Like a real lot!

I don't trim any vegetables, I just scarf down the entire thing!
