Someone is a bit angry today, struggle to have a normal conversation without raging like a kid?
Point being, that he got beaten by a handfull of class runners doesn't change the fact that he got beaten by several good national level runners he should've beaten if he runs 29:42 in training after an all out vertikal K.
You seem to think this is about lack of respect for Norwegian runners, it is not. Running sub 32, sub 31, sub 30 is all good. The point is that Killian is not as good of a flat runner that he himself claims, and that is also fine, he excels at his sports like few others.
Lol, who are raging like a kid? Is this really the way you try to win discussions?
Why should he have beat them if he runs 29:42? How can you say that when you have no idea about who he ran against? Do you think everyone runs their PB on any given day? You realize that Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdahl placed 32 when setting a PB of 30:32? What does tell you about the level of that race? Just a bunch of bums? The one two placements behind Kilian has a 2:15:03 marathon. Another one of those he beat is a 64:xx half marathon runner. So are you saying that these can't possibly be as good as they say, since they got beat by a bunch of norwegians and a spanish mountain runner?
By just skimming the list I recognize about 10 who have competed for norway internationally.
I have never seen any claims by Kilian about how good he is as a flat runner, I think it is as interesting as discussing how good mountain runner Jakob is. He has never ran a marathon so I guess he won't be world leading in that discipline - in fact I doubt that he would even be able to train for and compete in a serious marathon attempt without injury. The point is that it is ignorance at its best, and disingenuous bordering disrespectull at its worst to paint a picture that he was beaten by 17 nobodies at the 10k race. Calling the following "local club runners" or similar, hinting to him being beat by amateurs is from now on a plain lie:
7. Abdullahi Dahir Rabi J-XC EC silver (Beaten names as Laros and Ibler) 8. Thomas Fremo 29:17 10k 9. Weldu Negash Gebretsadik 2:09:14 marathon 10. Simen Halle Haugen 13:37.74 5k, european XC gold junior teams 11. Jonatan Vedvik 7:59.20 3000m, 3:45.45 1500 ...
Argue as much as you like that Kilian isn't this or that, but stop recycling the lie that placing behind world class runners at Hytteplanmila 2020 is some kind of mark of shame. Placing 1:40s behind an EC silver medallist, 35 seconds behind what would be a 2:09:14 marathon runner and beating a 2:15:03 marathon runner and a 64:xx half marathon runner is nothing to be ashamed of.
Fascinating that you don’t realise that my jokesabout you being a kid is a reference to your aggressive and unnecessary repliesto the other posters in here. Are you new to letsrun? Serious question.
Why? Because 29:42 in training AFTER an all out effort points to a much better result in a fast course with no all out effort before, don’t you agree? I’m well aware of the level of runners in the race Lars, the results are easily available online.
The claims from Kilian are regarding training times which does not match his performances. They are referenced in this post several times.
I think it is as interesting as discussing how good mountain runner Jakob is
That doesn’t really matter tho does it? Someone finds it interesting and are free to discuss it. Look at the board, its filled with silly discussions. Its like the endless discussions about what skinny 400m runners can do for an 800m. Not really that interesting as they rarely try, but a fun discussion.
What could be a relevant point is bashing on Kilian by pretending the runners beating him are nobodies, which is incorrect, I agree. But responding like you’ve done is pretty strange. Lack of respect? Come on, how can you see that the posters don’t care about these runners, and who really does..the fact is that it wasn’t as impressive as the times Kilian has claimed in workouts. Nowhere near. But it was an OK time, about what one would expect from him.

Why does this bother you so much? First of Im not recycling that “lie”, but I do think he should have beaten several of these runners given his own words regarding the mentioned training times. You seem strangely emotionally invested in this.
Kilian ran that 29:42 as part of his VK10K challenge. Run a Vertical KM and a 10k in under an hour combined.
he ran 29:57 on the vk, jogged down and ran 29:42 in the 10k right after.
His watch showed 10.08 km in 29:55 (=29:42 for 10.00, I presume without pulling out the calculator). I have no reason not to believe it because what some of you guys aren't getting is that he ran his vertical K here:
The 10K couldn't be perfectly flat. Why? There is only one road at that location, and it's in a fjord. Where his VK workout started, the road is at 154 ft elevation. If he went west, it rolls up and down (slightly) for 5.4 miles along the waterline before it dead ends at 18 ft elevation and he'd have to backtrack to get to 10K. Going east from the VK is a gradual climb up the glacier-carved valley. It'd make sense to get dropped off 10K up the road and run the ~800 ft drop for the contrast after the VK. That's what I'd do anyway (and have done sort of similar workouts myself up-out/down-back workouts, though less steep up and much steeper down). It's just a workout, not a record-eligible race course.
He did. You obviously haven't seen many screwed-up GPS tracks. Kilian's GPS track does look screwed up, with impossibly fast paces, etc. But that's sometimes what happens when GPSs get satellite view blocked by cloud cover and a huge mountain.
Look no further than the screwed up GPS tracks of almost all the others on the same route on Everest. Impossibly fast paces, jumps in elevations, etc. From this top ten list, these have bad GPS tracks that look bad: Brian Osoro (Suunto Ambit3 Peak), Demyanenko Igor (Garmin fenix 3), Alexey Bakulin (Garmin fenix 5X) who was with Igor, Roman Reutov (Suunto Ambit3 Peak), Harald Grossauer, Łukasz Łagożny (Suunto Spartan Ultra), and Дмитрий Гинкулов (Garmin fenix 3).
Only 2 of the 11 tracks I looked at on this Everest route look "normal". It's more normal to have a "suspicious" looking track on the north side of Everest than a "clean" track.

These constant deflections is so strange. I get that it must be some kind of coping mechanism but I'm not sure if it is so productive in the long run. But on the other hand, if it makes you feel better about yourself, have at it.

Rich coming from someone who has made it their multi-year goal to discredit some mountain runner. Sacrificing yourself for the noble cause!

Haha what on earth is this guy on. Where have I been discrediting Kilian? I'm full of praise for his accomplishments as a mountain/trail/ultra runner, skiier and climber.
So, your ad hominem is surely very distracting, but I'm still curious why it bothers you so much that people in here called these runners club runners or/in addition to criticized Killian.

What am I deflecting? Do you reply before you've checked all the responses?:)

I disagree, and we can surely discuss it but perhaps make another thread about it. Its not that important as whats interesting is his actual accomplishments. Or better, just find one of the old ones about the subject and give it new life.
I would be surprised if Killian can even run 2:15.
He is not a marathon runner and shouldn't be judged on his times at flat races. Go to his instagram and watch, you'll see what he does that is actually impressive. Might die with his free solo trips but its mighty impressive.
