If you actually are a high school coach your team probably has a fat losing streak. Probs has them run every dual meet possible then tanks at the state meet if you even qualify

It's corrupt. Only Max and Seb get paid hugely. Hayward Field is known for low class management. Indie TV uses volunteer TV cameramen. Indie media uses unpaid writers, free camera club children, free high schoolers, and free high school coaches. The athletes get very low prizes, no TV fees, no royalties.
If I was a well-paid and internationally known star I would be hesitant to run there for more than 1 reason. The Nike thing, of course, if I'm sponsored by someone else. Don't want to be part of their big showcase. But also because the stadium is unfinished. It only goes 3/4 of the way around. I assume this is to assure that the famous backstretch wind that was part of the venue's character in the Pre era is preserved. Bush league. Look at any number of decent stadia. They go all the way around!
What's the point to Lyles running except to satisfy some weird craving some of you have.
He has the bye for next Worlds in 25 in the 100M/200M. Let lesser mortals run their hearts out.
How do byes work for the Olympics? Will he have to double at the Olympic Trials if he wants to double at the Olympics? That would be wild to do to the world champion.
Judging by his Zurich performance, he probably is past his peak for the season.
Yes. He looked tight in Zurich and had nothing like his usual snap. Racing tired is inviting injury, especially in the sprints. I don't blame him a bit for calling it a (highly successful) season.
(In fact, he's managed to come up with 2 tremendous championship seasons consecutively, which is amazing in itself.)
He knows he’s not in WR record form, so he’s ending the season
They way he was talking prior to Worlds and the way he ran the 100m made me think a sub 19.3 was possible. Maybe on a different track with better conditions. I like the idea of him working hard to go after that world record, but 19.19 is very likely just out of reach. If it's WR or bust for Noah, he may wanna revisit.
Incredibly odd though that track continues after it's premiere event. Very few sports do this.
Looks like Noah Lyles must have changed his mind and is now running the Pre, as the meet organizers just sent out a promo email this morning stating "The world's fastest athletes are coming to The Prefontaine Classic. 2023 100-meter world champions Sha'Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles will vie for another title: Wanda Diamond League Champion." As a ticket holder, I hope this is true!
They also say that Sha'Carri will be competing. Here's a link to the announcement sent out today:"The world's fastest athletes are coming to The Prefontaine Classic. 2023 100-meter world champions Sha'Carri Richardson and Noa...

I like Noah but in fairness to him he's never been shy/bashful with his talking. Remember we were going to see a 100/200 double in Tokyo and then it was just the 200 and a WR and what we got was a bronze because of "mental health issues" (aka talked himself into the pressure that ultimately sunk him).
The reality is with his 100m is that he hasn't really made any massive strides because we forget that he ran 9.88 in 2018 and 9.86 in 2019 so really 9.83 now at probably his absolute athletic peak (age 26) is right where he should be. This isn't like when Bolt when from 10.03 to 9.69 (^^). He won the world title because this was a more "relaxed" year because Coleman is no longer missing tests, Jacobs is mysteriously back at his real ceiling of 10.0-10.1, and Kerley - not even sure what to think.
I agree with you that 19.19 might be out of reach - in fact I think it simply is. At 26 he really is historically past the peak age for many sprinters and he will be 27 by the time the season really get's going in 2024. And if there is any breeze coming through that open window for his WR aspirations in the 200, it's certainly ending after next season.
