tim tollefson sitting back 30 mins. between his conservative start and zach's shot out of the gates, i'm curious which approach will pay off. LOTS of race left.

If I remember right, Zach did the same thing last year and it backfired. I’d feel way more confident in the Tollefson/Green group. Much more measured approach. I had Evans winning, but I’m kind of concerned he and Zach got a little too excited, too early. We’ll see.
Jim has had problems with races over 14 to 15 hours in length. Seems to be a combination of fueling and musculoskeletal fatigue. He did have a good result at Istria (low altitude) earlier this year, 168 km in about 17:40. Sounds like he has been doing 125 mile weeks with a lot of vert, so hopefully he is not overtrained.
Yep. Jim is phenomenal at 6-15 hour ish races. After that, he's decent, but not mind blowing like he is. I wish some runners would recognize what they're good at and double down. It's so egotistical to think your ability translates to any event in the sport. I can't help but wonder if other Americans had won UTMB, if Jim would even care.
Small gap, still a long long way to go. If I'm Zach maybe drop back with my ole buddy Tom for awhile, I don't know? I've been driving and unable to watch the vid for awhile, but should be able to shortly.
Zach Miller- 1:10 in the last aid station to try and get out right behind Jim, who was a more conservative 3:30ish and ate and drank a lot more than Zach. Was Zach too rushed? We will find out!!!

More experienced guys tend to stay a bit longer in Courmayeur. But maybe that’s not how this race is won anymore

Zach reminded me way too much of my last 100k where I did the exact same thing to pass a couple guys and try and get in the top 5. I ended up blowing up walking to the next aid station and dropped after I couldn’t recover, even after spending 45min trying. Because of that, I’m not very optimistic of Zach’s move, but would love to see him prove me wrong.
I can't find the splits of the leaders. Can you give me a link please?
I’ve been glued to the live feed and tracking on the website. Someone posted the link on the 2nd or 3rd page of this thread. Right now they have 3 people commentating, bouncing between French and English, so I’m learning some French in addition to following the race.

Jim looked good at Bertone. 4 minutes ahead of Zach and 16 minutes ahead of 3rd.
Blanchard did not move up the way I thought he would. Quite the opposite actually.
