What a stupid argumentation - the record is what it is, irrelevant who has set the mark.
Call it whatever you want, but all the other men's track WRs are stronger (maybe the exception of the 1000m, it's close between those two).
7:58.61 definitely is within the reach of J Ingebrigtsen when in top shape for the distance. Tomorrow? Let's wait and see, but I think he will break the record.
The record has stood for over a quarter of a century and was set by a freak in an era when there was no test for EPO. The odds are absolutely against Ingebrigtsen.
But we know what your reaction will be if he DOES break this WB!
He ran 3:28.32 in an olympic final after 2 hard rounds, he ran 3:46.46, can run low 12:40s, and is olympic champion and world champion. Why does everyone doubt him he is pushing the sport continuously and we should all support him.
Simply because of these absurdities, people often raise doubts and can refute those who have achieved such achievements without thinking.

Anyone know if Jakob has ever used wavelight pacing before? It will be interesting to see what his tactics are with this and also the pacers in general.
Reasons he might get it: shoes, lights, pacers, going for a relatively weak record in a rarely attempted event.
Reasons he might not get it: he is currently 8th fastest all time in 1500m (outdoors) and 13th fastest all time in 3000m. My calculator (Purdy) equates a new record to 7:23.33 for 3000m -- Jakob's best is 7:27.05.
Beating Mottram (8:03.50) would make him #3, and beating Geb (8:01.08) would make him #2.

Is the 2 Miles record strong compared to the other men's track records?
Yes. They are all strong. But this record was set by Komen and has survived every assault in a quarter of a century. That isn't weak.
An attempt means very little until it is confirmed by the stopwatch/timer. I recall the present wr holder over the 5k had a highly publicized crack at the 3k record last year and missed by a country mile. Make no mistake, Ingebrigtsen is taking on one of this sport's Mt Everest. Better men than he have tried and failed.
